Why do hydroxamic acids act as HDAC inhibitors

In HDAC inhibitor it says "[They] act exclusively on Class I and Class II HDACs by binding to the zinc-containing catalytic domain of the HDACs" Rod57 (talk) 22:14, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Presumably they'll also inhibit most/many other enzymes that have zinc or other metals in their catalytic domain. Rod57 (talk) 22:14, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
