The Bells

I'm sure I've heard the bassline in techno producer/DJ Jeff Mills' track The Bells. Has anyone else picked this up? Thedangerouskitchen 13:36, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

I feel love

it's on a Klaus Nomi album.. would add it, if i knew the year....

Nip/tuck

I heard a remixed version in an ad for Nip/tuck, but I'm not sure whose version that was. 24.250.1.196 17:26, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

oxygene Part-5

It must be said that this track, sometimes recognised as on of the first "electro" song of disco/dance music is largely inspired (if not copy-pasted) by oxygene part-5 (second part of it) by Jean Michel Jarre. Moroder himself recognise that he was fascinated hearing this piece (oxygene5) when Jarre was recording it in the same studio where they both worked; he asked Jarre to go back with a copy of the recording, and a few weeks after the song "I feel love" get out. In fact "I feel love" is almost a dance remix of Oxygène-5; the whole background synth loop is almost the same. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.152.122.13 (talk) 12:21, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Not completely. In this interview, Jean-Michel Jarre says that Moroder heard Oxygene while it was being recorded in Paris, and that I Feel Love was "un des premiers samples piraté" (one of the first pirate samples). This is not strictly true, as there is no note for note similarity in the synth bass lines of Oxygene 5/2 and I Feel Love. Nevertheless, it is possible that I Feel Love was influenced by Oxygene 5/2, and Jarre clearly believes this.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 21:02, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Jarre believes a lot of things. And I say that liking the man a great deal. But considering what his output sounded like previous to Oxygene, why don't we ask him sometime about how much Klaus Schulze he'd downed before making it, just to even things out? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.132.254.140 (talk) 21:23, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Jarre would have had a poor case in a court of law, as the two bass lines are nowhere near identical, only vaguely similar. However, the anecdote that Moroder heard Oxygene being recorded in the studio in 1976 does not seem to be denied by either of them.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 21:29, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Fine. The point is, as I was attempting to illustrate above - so what? Popular music is littered with thousands of such instances. It's trivial at best, and doesn't rate much above a "I heard that so-and-so said that he heard from somebody that somebody told him..." type observation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.132.254.140 (talk) 23:33, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Agreed, it would be notable for the article if the incident had set off a plagiarism lawsuit, as happened with Telstar (song). You could fill an entire book with similar tunes in pop songs. It is often pointed out that Jarre's Oxygene Part 4 is similar to Popcorn (instrumental), but whether this is an intentional quote is unclear.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 06:55, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Why?

"It quickly became popular in gay dance clubs and was adopted as a gay anthem".... o.k., but why? Can't find an explanation. What's so gay about it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.135.54.105 (talk) 02:28, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

One real instrument

Moroder and Bellotte did use one real instrument, a bass drum for the beat. They could not get a precise punchy sound with snap attack and end out of synth. Here is a Moroder interview telling about it http://noisey.vice.com/blog/how-we-made-giorgio-moroder-on-i-feel-love Noseball (talk) 10:55, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
