I have restored several of the edits that I made yesterday, using detailed edit summaries explaining why the edits were made. Please do not revert them again without discussion here. The list of past meetings is not very encyclopedic and is information that can easily be found on the society's own website. Listing future meetings is, in addition, borderline promotional. The logo cannot be uploaded to Commons by an anonymous editor, as Commons only accepts files that are free of copyright or released under a CC license by the legal copyright owner. However, the logo can be uploaded locally under a "fair use" license (not allowed on Commons, but allowed here under US law). Thanks for clarifying the reasons for your changes. Elsewhere:

* Listing past meeting with a references to websites containing content pertaining to the meeting would is, I think, helpful for readers. Lists of previous meetings for scientific societies is given on Wikipedia sites for other Neuroscience societies; see, for example, Society for Neuroscience. Note that in that case they also list their future (2014) meeting. So, can you reverse your deletion of the past meetings and the corresponding citations?

* I've put my name on my Wiki Commons website, as I already had on the Wikipedia page. Hence, the account is not anonymous. I also have consent from my coauthors. Therefore, can you undo your deletion? I will, however, follow your suggestion and upload locally.

I have edited the SFN article, too. I cannot undelete things on Commons, as I am not an admin there. However, stating your real name does not help from a legal point of view, as there is no way of checking that this is, in fact, true (I know you have no reason to lie about that, but we're talking legal requirements here). There's a process called OTRS, both here and at Commons, to properly release material under a CC license. So you can either keep the copyright and upload here under a fair use license, or release it under CC, but then you have to go through OTRS. --Randykitty (talk) 15:52, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifying these points. It is surprising that Wikimedia allow anonymous users to upload with a CC license if such an upload is, by definition, invalid. I'm not sure, but I think that is intended for graphics that someone has produced themselves and that does not appear on a website that either carries a copyright statement or may be assumed to be copyrighted. --Randykitty (talk) 16:19, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
