When the author says "IVIG cost is stable but over $75/g. ($15,000 for a 100 kg (220 lbs) person at 2g/kg)" is that per individual infusion, per year, per month?

Prednisone

[edit]

Will IVIG work if you are doing an IUI or do you have to do and IVF with this therapy?

My doctor suggested prednisone as an alternative to the IVIG, is it less effective, what is the difference?

Thanks for you time,

Wikipedia article talk pages are not meant for discussion of the subject covered on the page, but for discussing the actual content of the page (eg. errors in the content or questionable claims). It isn't even clear to me what you're asking, as in what kind of an ailment you're considering this treatment for (which would be crucial to determine whether IVIG would possibly be more or less effective than prednisone).
We cannot give medical advice here anyway, but I'll just comment on the main difference between IVIG and prednisone: the latter is an immunesuppressant while the former is essentially an immunostimulant. Prednisone has much bigger risks when used in the long-term - permanent adverse effects are not uncommon. I'd also recommend looking into low dose naltrexone, but again this is not medical advice, and the efficacy of these treatments depends on the condition which is treated, as well as individual variation. You should discuss this issue with your doctor. DiamonDie 09:28, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Review in JACI

[edit]

doi:10.1016/j.jaci.2006.01.015 is a long free review of the uses of IVIG in human disease. Well worth considering as a good source. JFW | T@lk 16:59, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shortages have led the UK Department of Health to conduct an evidence-based guideline on the use of IVIG. doi:10.1136/bmj.a1831. Some uses (including recurrent miscarriage) are blacklisted. JFW | T@lk 11:45, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The link given by JFW is an AAAAI review and it is excellent! I just incorporated some of its guidance about asthma. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:45, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That paper could be used to develop indications of use for this article. I was here to add content because this treatment is overused for a purpose for which it is not indicated - asthma - but the ordinary indications are not in this article. This article gets a lot of traffic and I think it is probably to learn indications among other things. I might be interested in developing that if someone wants to join me. References for Gammagard failing Phase III

[edit]

I found 2 references for Gammagard failing phase III clinical trials:

Unfortunately, I don't know how to specify citations in the article, so I'm leaving them here for someone more skilled. jeremyleader (talk) 18:45, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll add the first reference. Wikipedia:Citing sources explains how to create references. I used the following code:
