Will get to this shortly. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 11:48, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Prelim[edit]

  • No duplicated links (bar different levels of the same award which I think are fine to all be linked)
  • No edit wars
  • Images are licensed
  • Earwig reports no copyvio; only flag is on medal citation quote

Early life[edit]

  • "A. E. Smith and his wife." is the wife named?
  • "coach" needs a link, but I'm not sure what type of coach it would have been!

Second World War[edit]

  • "he destroyed" > "Smith destroyed"
  • If there's no link for Stapleford might it be good to use a link to an article on the wider area - whichever Stapleford that may be!
  • "damaged a second Do 17" do you mean Do 217?
  • Whoops, no the earlier reference to Do 217 is in error. Have fixed. Zawed (talk) 07:09, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "was withdrawn" > "were withdrawn"
  • "it was tasked" clarify whether this is the entire squadron or just Smith's Hurricane flight
  • It was the squadron, have clarified. Zawed (talk) 08:29, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "for the next several months" seems unnecessary
  • No particular reasoning behind his first DFC?
  • Frustratingly, the LG is a notification only, not a published citation. Neither of my main sources (Wynn, Lambert) say why either (probably because of the absence of a published citation). Zawed (talk) 08:29, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "on London"
  • "was acting flight lieutenant" > "had been promoted to acting flight lieutenant and commanded.."?
  • "this was only of limited success" what was? the co-operation or the use of the Havocs?
  • "in a position" > "into a position"
  • "Shortly after his" > "Shortly after Smith's"
  • "successfully breached the east and north walls" how?
  • "In May, Smith's squadron" so this means he relinquished command of No. 140 Wing? When?
  • Yes, have added some clarification but don't have an exact date for relinquishing command. Zawed (talk) 08:29, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The night before D-Day" suggest stating date

Postwar service[edit]

  • "Air HQ" > "Air Headquarters"?
  • "flying wing commander" should this be "wing commander (flying)"?
  • "Fenton Church" any idea for a link?
  • "the Tactical Air Command"?
  • Link Devon (lede and infobox too)
  • The Guardian article had his nickname as "Black" - worth mentioning?
  • Have added mention of his nickname in the WWII section and also in infobox. Zawed (talk) 08:37, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

  • Ref #16 is an error link
  • References otherwise look good.

@Zawed: Have completed my initial comments. Will await your replies. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 23:04, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Zawed: Argh, apologies that I've only just come back to this, it completely slipped my mind! Happy to pass this as satisfying the GA criteria. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 20:50, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
