should the Anglo-Russian agreement of 37 be linked/mentioned here
[edit]Can go as a see also of course, but re:
- Kupreyanov greeted the British captain Edward Belcher in 1837, who was commanding surveying expedition of two ships
I take it that expedition was in connection with the agreement's outcome, rather than a preamble to it.....if so would be worth mentioning it and linking in the next, no?Skookum1 (talk) 14:53, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
- The exploration under Belcher had nothing to do with the '39 agreement. Feel free to read the actual report by Belcher, because I am certain there wont be any mention of it. Besides the agreement, while sanctioned by their respective governments, was solely between the Russian-American Company and the Hudson's Bay Company.
- Hm just seemed surprising that there was any British presence coming by Sitka given prior hostilities; I would have thought that would only after the agreement was in place...it was under initial negotiations around then though wasn't it? I guess Kupreanof's 'overwhelming civility' might have been an effort to offset the earlier discord.Skookum1 (talk) 03:59, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
- The expedition was surveying essentially the entire Pacific Coast of the Americas, with specific instructions to determine the location of Mt. St. Elias. The negotiations for the RAC-HBC agreement as the article I wrote notes, began and ended in 1839. Voltaire's Vaquero (talk) 05:27, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
