It looks like there is a Jökulhlaup currently happening at the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, AK. Figured it may be interesting to you and possibly for this wiki?. Sub-glacial

I am not convinced that jökulhlaups are generally regarded as solely sub-glacial. Glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) are also refered to as jökulhlaups and this is reflected in pages on the University of Icelands' website as well as scientific articles. Pronunciation

Would it be possible to add a pronunciation guide for the word “Jökulhlaup”? Michael JasonSmith (talk) 08:46, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

maybe someone can phrase this a bit more scientifically, but:
j as English Y
ö as in German, or as a short French eu
k as you woulid expect
u as German ü or French u
l as in Welsh ll (voiceless lateral fricative)
h as k
l as l
au as French oeil
p as p
