Question about pronouns in the article[edit]

This may sound a bit weird, but I was just on a page for another of my Favourite shows, Degrassi and on this current series (or season), there is also a transgendered character, female to male. On the Characters section, the person in charge referred to the character by her female name "Gracie 'Adam' Torres" and used female pronouns, but then there was a user who took offense to what was written and changed the name to Adam and all the pronouns to male. There was some debate but she did her research and referenced the MOS and that transgendered character is being referred to as male Here is the discussion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_Degrassi:_The_Next_Generation_characters

I know that Jasmine is a bit different, as you are seeing her switching between both genders during the show, whereas Adam on Degrassi is only seen as "Adam" from the very beginning. Also, unlike Adam, Jasmine's family does not know. So, I was wondering if we should change the pronouns as well as the character's name in this article like they did for Degrassi. Should we wait until her secret comes out and she fully becomes Jason (I hope I am saying this in the proper terms)? How should we treat this article in the long run. I'm anxious to hear feedback. Thanks!74.14.183.54 (talk) 15:35, 24 August 2010 (UTC)samusek2[reply]

Page name[edit]

What should this page be titled as? The character's called himself Jason from day one. He's been refered to as both a lot in media. Her name has been Jasmine, it is in the eyes of the law right now. He's credited as Jason Costello in the end credits these days.RAIN..the..ONE HOTLINE 22:00, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I caught Hollyoaks this week for the first time in years, so I'm not familiar with the character/storyline beyond what I've read over the past few days, but I'd say if he's consistently called himself Jason and is credited as such, that's where the page should be. I don't think there are enough articles to find a definitive common name that way, but I'd lean towards using the name the character identifies as. Frickative 22:12, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Usually with a change in name we would leave it because of WP:COMMONNAME, but considering this character will now be known as a male, the page being named 'Jasmine Costello' doesn't seem right. I think the article itself needs to be rewritten (the she's and her's to he's, him's and his etc.). The same is done with any other transgender character/real life person. The images should be changed too, I need to try and get an image of Jason with the new hairdo :PLostHavoc(talk) 22:13, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'll move to Jason then? I know, when I made the article, I just put a few refs in and the like, the basics. But I didn't know how far they'd take the SL back then, it's clear from Marquess' interview on DS they're gonna take it all the way. So it will be 'him, he' all the way through now. For images, we should rid of the one in the hat, use the Infobox one in characterisation to show how he looked as Jasmine, get one with how he looks at the moment for the infobox. (Frickative, you should come back to Hollyoaks, it's just getting stronger and stronger under Marquess. :P )RAIN..the..ONE HOTLINE 23:01, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That all sounds good to me :) (I've probably only seen three episodes ever, but I was very impressed by what I saw of this storyline, so I might have to start watching more often!) Frickative 23:09, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
