Lack of credibility about Jay Love Japan and its sources

This page is a farce. It's about a non-existant album planned for the future, and there isn't a single source cited

I agree that this page is very bad, and the details around Jay Love Japan are murky. It's questionable as to whether Jay Love Japan is ever going to be released - it is not mentioned on www.myspace.com/jdilla, www.stonesthrow.com/jdilla, www.j-dilla.com, or www.jdilla.org. Of course you can find it on Google, but what are the sources? Nearly all mentions of the album are either heresay, references to the internet bootleg, or mentions of it as it appeared in Stones Throw's announcement after Dilla's passing - that there was something called "Jay Love Japan" - that's it. Jay Love Japan is mentioned on Dilla.biz, apparently run by the label that intends to release the album, but even their small information about the record contradicts the information that was on this page. This album was originally announced as an instrumental EP in an ad in Wax Poetics Magazine back in 2005. -- MarcelloRubini 23:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

The liner notes for The Shining advise fans to look out for Jay Love Japan, and include an image of the album cover. You won't find anything about the album from Stones Throw Records because it's being released by Operation Unknown.--NPswimdude500 03:48, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

The liner notes of The Shining are only a mention - no details. All of J Dilla's other albums are listed at stonesthrow.com including The Shining (BBE) long before it was released - same with myspace.com/jdilla and j-dilla.org. Of course it isn't listed by Stones Throw, as they aren't releasing it; they don't advertise def jams new releases either, etc. Info for it is all over the site of the label that it is actually dropping on, the Op one linked above. Make more sense. ANONfeb18

Chronology

The "album" is very sketchy - on what basis was it added to the chronology in the first place? From definition it would have to be an album and be released, or at very least a concrete future release date backed up by something more than message board postings. After at least a year and a half of this album being announced, it's only been an internet bootleg - and even that has been discredited by the label which is supposedly going to release the album. It should be removed from the chronology until there is solid evidence that it is going to be released. 69.234.106.35 05:51, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

As I understand it, you're saying that Jay Love Japan shouldn't be added to the chronology on the basis that it has no set release date and that album rumors have circulated for a year? I tend to disagree for several reasons: First, there are loads of articles on albums that haven't been released. These albums are almost always included in chronologies. Secondly, albums that have been recorded and not released (often shelved as a result of a record label dispute) are also included in chronologies (just look at Q-Tip's albums Kamaal the Abstract and Open). Thirdly, a year is not that much time when talking about album releases. Kamaal the Abstract was recorded in 2002 and still hasn't been released. A great example of this at work is Dr. Dre's long-awaited third studio album Detox. It was first announced in 2000, and 7 years later it still hasn't been released. Finally, considering the fact that Jay Dee passed away, the likelihood of any other albums following the re-release of Ruff Draft is minimal. For these reasons, I believe it to be entirely reasonable to include Jay Love Japan in the chronology.--NPswimdude500 18:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

J Dilla also has an unreleased album made for MCA records in 2002/3, you might as well add that too. Jay Love Japan should be taken off the chronology for the validity of the J Dilla article.
