There was a man that my mother worked for in Oceanside California in the early to mid 1980's that went by the nic name J.R(I cant remember well because I was so young but I think she also called him Bill)I think his real name was Jay R Smith & he owned a Trail ways Bus station & hanging near the front desk of the station, was a large picture of Freckles from the original Our Gang series, while visiting my mom one day at the bus station I asked JR about the picture & he told me that the picture was of him as a little boy & that he played the part of Freckles in the original Our Gang series, he stated that Hal Roche discovered him as a little boy playing in a field with a bunch of other kids near a warehouse where they put together the floats for the Pasadena Rose Parade. It troubles me to hear that he was murdered trying to help a homeless person. I remember that my mother and I were poor and he always helped us out when we were low on money for food or rent. His bio on this page puzzles me as there is no mention of him ever owning a Trail ways bus station, only that he owned a paint business. Can anyone tell me if Jay R Smith of the Our Gang fame ever owned a Trail ways bus station in Oceanside California? I will check back on this page in the future to see if anyone has answered my question. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks

[edit]Article implies reference to the mythical "Our Gang" tendency towards dying young. There is more evidence to suggest a great deal of the Gang actors died at the age of at least 49, and there was such a large group that the probability of some dying young or tragically was increased, and people just look at these statistics and not all of the former actors and actresses who died middle aged or elderly. Anyway, do we need "unlike many of his other colleagues" or is it just there because it sounds better than "(he managed) for some time to live a long and healthy life, unlike a statistically unimpressive cross-section of his former colleagues."
Native of....
[edit]How can he be a native of both Los Angeles and Hawaii? Wouldn't he just be a native of Los Angeles because that is where he was born and grew up? It appears that he moved to Hawaii after leaving the movie industry. Is that correct or did he live in Hawaii before then?Jtyroler (talk) 21:00, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
