"Branding"

Nobody mentions the company 'brands' or etches EACH bean with the 'Jelly Belly' tradename/mark/logo, to prevent 'counterfeiting' of product, and that this just might add a bit to the high cost of the product ?? -- 01/13/08 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.243.215.122 (talk) 10:36, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Factory Tour rating

Read somewhere that the Jelly Belly factory tour was one of the Best in the US, but I can't remember where. Anyone else read this? Tomservo3000 04:31, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans

Is there a specific reason that there's no list of the Bertie Bott's flavours, or is it just that nobody's added them yet? - Ugliness Man 12:04, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm, maybe I'll add a list of the current Bertie Bott's flavors.--Brandon Dilbeck 00:44, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

-

We need to establish which spelling should be used for the word "Flavour" in the Bertie Bott's section. The books were written in the UK, where the word is spelled with the 'u'. I don't know if the American editions of the book change the spelling to conform with American standards, but my Canadian editions of the books all leave the UK spelling intact. Someone recently "corrected" the heading of this section in the article, and I think we need some sort of consensus before it turns into a revision war. - Ugliness Man 06:58, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

I changed "Flavour" to "Flavor" earlier to match every other occurence of the spelling in the article--even the body text of that section had it spelled "flavor". It's debatable which spelling we should use, but all I have to say is that in the US, where the beans are produced, the spelling on the packaging is spelled without the U. We could go either way, but if anything, it has to be consistent through the article. --Brandon Dilbeck 07:22, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
They're also produced by another company here in Canada and their packaging includes the 'u'. But now that I think about it, I guess since we're talking about a sub-section of the Jelly Belly article (as opposed to an article directly related to Harry Potter), the American spelling should prevail, since Jelly Belly originated in the USA. - Ugliness Man 08:20, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't see any reason why the Bertie Bott's page redirects to Jelly Belly -- I understand that it was a product line for a while, but it's more important to the Harry Potter article than it is to the Jelly Belly article. We're really dealing with two different products: the fictional one and the real one. I was thinking of making a disambiguation page for "Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans," such as:

Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans could refer to:

  • A fictional candy mentioned in the Harry Potter book series
  • A product line manufactured by Jelly Belly based on this candy

This would make it clearer that we're dealing with two separate things. Objections/comments? Graymornings (talk) 18:31, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Mystery Flavor

I think the Mystery Flavor (Ice Cream Sandwich) should be removed from the list of the official 50 flavors because the Jelly Belly website doesn't have it in their official flavors list, and it's a limited time thing anyway. I fixed the redlinks within the list item but I don't think it should stay in the list. Have any ideas about whether we should move it somewhere else in the article, or remove it, or are there any other ideas? --Brandon Dilbeck 19:48, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

The Mystery Flavor should probably be in a seperate area of the article, as it is a Jelly Belly promotion, and not one of the original 49 flavors.
it is my understanding that which mystery flavor you get depends on which bag you get (i.e. perhaps all of the "choices" exist). this would make more sense with the contest imo Perle 23:27, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
I've gotten about four bags since the contest started, and they've all tasted the same--ice cream sandwich (actually, I think it hardly tastes like it...). Besides, the contest isn't mentioned in the article anymore. --Brandon Dilbeck 03:31, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

It should also be noted that they now have a line of sugar-free jelly beans.

--Nomader 02:33, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

I added a list of the sugar-free beans but I don't know enough about them to write much. I put Official 50 Flavors, Bertie Bott's Beans, and Sugar-Free beans as subsections under Jelly Beans to organize the topics. --Brandon Dilbeck 23:19, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Alright - it'll do for now. I added links to the sugar-free beans, but we'll just have to stick with that for now, 'till I have the time to do some research. --Nomader 20:34, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

I think it would be cool if the article went beyond the 50 flavors and had a section on 'extinct' or 'retired' jelly bean flavors. That would be really interesting and cool. 20 April 2006

Confections

I think it's sad to have an article about Jelly Belly but only discuss their jelly beans. Jelly Belly produces many other fine candies, the Confections. But I don't know much about them. Does anyone know anything to write about the Confections to give the article more roundedness? I think it should be introduced as a new section. --Brandon Dilbeck 07:46, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Best Flavor Names

What do you think is the best name for a flavor? me and my friend were debating this and we couldnt decide between razapple, carmaccino, or whatever else u can think of. Please give suggestions as to what you think the best flavor name is

As far as I know, neither of those have been flavor names for Jelly Belly's products. And it doesn't matter anyway, since my opinion would not be suitable material to put into the Wikipedia article. --Brandon Dilbeck 05:41, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Suitable for Vegans?

Does anyone know if they are suitable for vegans? I think this ought to specified.

There are no animal products in the jellybeans but they do contain beeswax for the glossiness. So hardcore vegans might want to avoid them. Jordan Cable 05:45, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
They used to have gelatin from shellfish, and now they don't. It seems like a lot of things are removing gelatin- Skittles and Starburst jelly beans (JELLY BEANS ONLY, not the actual Starburst chews!), now this. As mentioned above, Jelly Belly DOES use beeswax. Elecbullet (talk) 18:58, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Buttered Popcorn

In the article, buttered popcorn flavor is listed under both the official flavor list, and the Bertie Bott's list. Is this accurate? Isaac Crumm 05:29, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

The Bertie Bott's boxes contain some pretty weird flavors, but they also contain a few "regular" flavors as well. It wouldn't be "Every Flavor" if popcorn weren't in it! --Brandon Dilbeck 17:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

yeh but shouldn't that section be exclusively for bertie botts? otherwise it would be rendundant 75.45.179.178 03:59, 23 July 2007 (UTC)fdsak

But then it would be inaccurate and incomplete. --Brandon Dilbeck 02:46, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I didn't know bots could accidentally double-post! Is this an error? --Brandon Dilbeck 17:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

black forest cake

i ate a black forest cake flavor around 2002/2003 bertie botts, but since then i haven't been able to find any record of the flavor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.45.179.178 (talkcontribs)

I too haven't seen any word about the Carrot Cake flavor I used to enjoy. I think there was one also...a black Raspberry that I like a lot.

The Sour Flavors

There is no list of the sour flavor of the jelly beans. Is there a reason or has it just not been added yet? If nobody steps and puts them on than I will do it. Mr. C.C. 03:51, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Interesting comment, it is almsot worded as a threat, or are you asking permission?Isaac Crumm 03:14, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Sour Apple, Sour Blue Raspberry, Sour Cherry, Sour Grape, Sour Lemon, Sour Orange, Sour Peach, Sour Raspberry, Sour Strawberry, Sour Watermelon. I got a pack for Easter, thought I'd help out :) Elecbullet (talk) 19:00, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Bean Boozled

Bean Boozled is it a new line or is it a Bertie Botts name change (some flavors overlap). The 2007 Candy Expo had a sign of featuring new Jelly Belly beans that look just like other Jelly Belly beans

  • "Skunk Spray" (looks like "Licorice")
  • "Pencil Shavings" (looks like "Top Banana")
  • "Moldy Cheese" (looks like "Caramel Corn")
  • "Baby Wipes" (looks like "Coconut")
  • "Toothpaste" (looks like "Berry Blue")
  • "Rotten Egg" (looks like "Buttered Popcorn")
  • "Ear Wax" (looks like "Cafe Latte")
  • "Booger" (looks like "Juicy Pear")
  • "Vomit" (looks like "Peach")
  • "Black Pepper" (looks like "Plum")

This is all per a pic from Candy Expo 2007 posted on Candy Addict website and another pic with the name "Bean Boozled"Antmusic 23:24, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

They just announced it on the official Jelly Belly website too here Antmusic 23:41, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Updates

I am removing the advertisement and citation warnings as I have improved the article on these subjects significantly, but I will mark the sections with tags that still need to be improved. Thanks! --Email4jonathan (talk) 21:54, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Fruit Sours?

The article mentions "sour balls... about the size of an oldfashioned gumball" available in 5 flavors, but the Jelly Belly Sours I've seen in stores (and those on the Jelly Belly website) are available in 10 flavors, and are the same size and shape as regular Jelly Belly beans. Are the sour gum balls a separate product than regular sours or is the article just inaccurate? 217.155.20.163 (talk) 17:43, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Edit requested

{{editsemiprotected}} The source of reference #2 has changed from http://jellybelly.com/Cultures/en-US/About+Jelly+Belly/Company+History.htm to http://www.jellybelly.com/about_jelly_belly/company_history.aspx . The page still contains all of the information referred to in the article, as far as I can tell. Thanks in advance. -- Jurassicstrain (talk) 22:25, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Documentary Edit Request

A documentary on David Klein is scheduled to debut at the Slamdance festival later this month, promising to reveal the Jelly Belly story from his position. A host of new information about the early company is coming to light around this film.

There's a lot of information contained in here that is not up on the main article yet. I would have just added it, but the article is protected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.112.7.254 (talk) 20:37, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

This article is not neutral, it reads like a marketing flyer. There is no information about ingredients, artificial colouring, additives. In germany, there is even a warning on the backside of each package, no single word about that.
