Changes to draft of John Forbes and company article
[edit]As of Oct. 10th, I have added citations for nearly every paragraph, and have cited only a few pages in each case, now using the Harvard reference system as suggested by the editors. I have also added a citation to an 1821 book by an unrelated author named James Grant Forbes in which the John Forbes & Co. purchase is mentioned, along with a map to the town the developers attempted to create to sell land. This book is available on line at the link provided in the Reference section. For completeness, I also added a reference for David White's 1973 dissertation about the John Forbes Company. No electronic version is available, but several libraries have bound copies. A short version was published in the Florida Historical Quarterly, which is also cited and linked.
I had already added four new references (Boyd, Brown, Kennedy and White) that were published in the journal, Florida Historical Quarterly and one link to a US Supreme Court decision (Holmes) related to the Forbes grants. Each of these is directly accessible by a quick link or pdf file in the Reference section so reviewers can verify the sources.
I removed the prior reference to the genealogy of John Forbes' wife, Marie Isabelle Narbonne, and substituted the direct link to the source document (reference 5). Although probably self-published, readers can verify the information by searching the document for Forbes or Narbonne. Genealogies are the only source I know for this information.
I also obtained a second review and have edited the piece based on that review. In addition, two local historians who are knowledgeable about this topic have read the article and did not suggest more changes. Therefore, I would like to resubmit for review because I agree that the information could be better improved within the context of regular Wikipedia pages.
Wikipedia editors added three specific suggestions concerning the page ranges for references, the lead summary, and the captions yesterday. I have rewritten the lead summary according to the suggestion, and also changed the figure captions to meet guidelines. I have changed the references as suggested, and think that the article is greatly improved and hopefully ready to become a regular Wikipedia page.
