Discrepancy in the sources regarding date of promotion
[edit]The 1911 source states: "After the close of the war, Commodore Marston was appointed inspector of lighthouses in the Boston district, and in 1866 was promoted to the rank of rear-admiral"; the 2013 source states: "In March 1881 he received a final promotion to rear admiral on the retired list". Is there any way to make a more definitive confirmation of his promotion date? BD2412 T 19:55, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- This source, which is an official listing of officers and ranks, has him as a commodore as of 1877. The 1880 edition also lists him as a commodore. He is listed as a Rear Admiral in the 1882 edition so the source stating that he was promoted in 1881 is the correct one. Hog Farm Talk 22:34, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
