Notability

His main claim to notability appears to be that he won a lot of votes in an election for a non-notable office where he was the only opponent to the eventual winner. You'll need more than that to pass wp:politician. Hairhorn (talk) 19:48, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

He is the first candidate in the history of his party to surpass the million vote barrier, which meets one the planks of WP:OUTCOMES#Politicians (represents "a historic first"). I believe he also received the highest vote % of any non-major party candidate in a gubernatorial election in Georgia's history, though a reliable source will obviously be needed to verify that.--JayJasper (talk) 18:00, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Getting a lot of votes for a non-notable office is not exactly what I'd call a "historic first", especially when there were only two candidates. Further, if this is what he's notable for, then he's only notable for one event, and may fail GNG. Hairhorn (talk) 13:20, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
He also received a considerable amount of coverage for his 2012 gubernatorial run: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], (oh, and he was also the first African-American to appear on the general election ballot for Governor of Georgia: [10], [11]). IMO, he meets WP:GNG. I plan to incorporate these sources into the article within the next few days to help establish that.--JayJasper (talk) 17:29, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Looks a lot better now, thanks for that. Would also suggest rewriting the lead since "first African American to appear on the general election ballot for Governor of Georgia" is probably a more significant claim to notability than garnering a lot of votes for an insignificant office. Cheers. Hairhorn (talk) 13:44, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Suggestion noted and completed. Thanks for the input.--JayJasper (talk) 18:52, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
