Reverted edits

[edit]

Desapar, I see that you reverted my edits about the subject's name, also without an explanation in the edit summary. Can you explain why? They were cited. Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 06:54, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Desapar:, Referencing your comments on my talk page User_talk:Kohlrabi_Pickle#Joshua_Ip_Entry, the Wikipedia manual of style on pseudonyms appears to say otherwise. Have a look and let me know what you think? Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 07:13, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also would say that this page is a biography of the person, not a profile of the writer. His day job is where he spends the majority of his time, so it must be notable enough to appear on his article. Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 07:16, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"His day job is where he spends the majority of his time" - not necessarily true. At any rate, the bulk of the page is clearly about the subject's career as a writer and is thus a writer profile page.
Is there a reference explicitly linking the subject's real name to his pseudonym by the way? Desapar (talk) 07:25, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia doesn't do writer profiles. This is a biography of the subject.
Certainly. The subject is a founder and director of "Sing Lit Station". See [1]. He is listed on Page 1 of the statements of Sing Lit Station as "Joshua Yap Yonggang". Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 07:39, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Desapar: I think I can accept your point on the basis that it is Wikipedia:No_original_research#Synthesis_of_published_material, which is disallowed, since the conclusion that Joshua Ip and Joshua Yap Yonggang are the same person synthesises two sources. It seems obvious to me that they are the same person, but regardless, on that basis, I can also remove any mention of his work as an army officer. Does that work? Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 07:47, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kohlrabi Pickle: Based on WP: NOR and WP:SYNTH, shouldn't the article then not make the link between those two individuals if there is no credible sourcing of that link? Lightsup112 (talk) 07:55, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Desapar, Kohlrabi Pickle I would propose that the article Joshua Ip be restored to its prior state before March 17. Lightsup112 (talk) 07:55, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kohlrabi Pickle: Thanks for reverting to align this article closer to Wikipedia standards! Could you also revert the title to Joshua Ip? Thanks/ Lightsup112 (talk) 07:59, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Desapar Lightsup112 I'll have the article moved back to "Joshua Ip". I should mention that if a source appears connecting the two, all this information will likely be restored, subject to the notability point Desapar mentioned. (There might be fair debate about whether his past commands should be included, for example. Though if he has written any poetry related to the military or nationalism, it might find its way back.) Gentle note as well that you sign the 4 tildes at the end of your comment. And when replying, add colons to create levels. Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 08:00, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Contemplating proposing deletion

[edit]

@Desapar: (and anyone else who wants to weigh in), do you have any opinions on the subject's notability? I'm not convinced that the subject is notable enough as a poet to merit an encyclopaedia entry. See WP:POET on notability guidelines. I'm contemplating proposing this page for deletion, but decided I would leave this thought out here so anyone could object if they wanted. Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 16:19, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Desapar (talk) Subject has been conferred several national awards, which seems at a minimum to pass muster under notability guidelines. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Desapar (talkcontribs) 01:42, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
