Nintendo WFC

Is Jump Superstars 2 confirmed to be Nintendo WFC compatible, or is that just a rumour?

Yes.
If it is Wi-Fi Compatable, that might mean it may be released in America for worldwide play. But, it would take a long time.
No, it would not. Not all wi-fi games are available worldwide. - A Link to the Past (talk) 21:37, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Bleach DS is online, but only available in Japan. There are just too many licenses involved in this series for it to ever make it stateside. Still, I haven't heard confirmation that JUS is online yet, does anyone have a source link?
Teh Effin ad. - Malomeat 11:18, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Never had the experience of using the Wi-Fi myself: even if the game is only available in Japan (I doubt anything else will be the case), would the Wi-Fi also be Japan exclusive, or would importers be able to play on the Wi-Fi (Also without any seperation from the Japanese game owners)?
Oh hell yes, unless the server refuses connections from foreign IPs. But I highly doubt that. - Malomeat 18:49, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Ultimate!

I'm so happy that they decided to make a sequel to my favorite DS game, and what I wanted the most, Wi-Fi is included. I'm in US and I'm able to import the game but is sad that I can't get to read the spacial manga or buy the Jump DS Lite for a fare price here. Also, what were they thinking adding Frieza as a fighting character? Trunks should have been the fighting character and Frieza the support one instead >.>'.

  • You have to admit, the game was hurting for playable villains. The only pure villains playable in the last one were Dio Brando and Dr. Mashirito (There was also Sasuke, Piccolo, Vegeta, etc., but they weren't really the real deal). My guess is that people complained about it, and thus, one of SJ's most infamous villains are now playable. - Malomeat 00:36, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Probably, but we also have to admit that Freeza is neither the most famous Villain in Dragon Ball or the strongest one. In all Dragon Ball games out there, at least in most of them, Freeza is the worst or close to the worst character in there. It would have been a smarter decision to add Majin Buu or probably Cell (although I would have really preferred Omega Shenron or Baby but since that's GT is like going bit too far...). Thing is, Trunks is my favorite character in Dragon Ball. Although I apprecite being in the game, it disappoints me how instead of him being the fighting character and Frieza the support one. Sadly nothing of this will change though. - Mega-Japan 02:56, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
      • My best guess is that they included him cause he was originally going to be the last villan of the series (Just in case you didn't the creator originally was going to end Dragon Ball after Freeza, but fans asked for more, so Cell and Buu sagas were created, but they, you could say, didn't have the trill of what was going to be the end of Dragon Ball). - Arkadian 21:12, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
        • Hmm, now that is something I didn't know. So Akira Toriyama was planning on ending it right there? It would have been a shame if he would have done that. But still, that wouldn't be reason enough. Thanks for the info anyway. - Mega-Japan 21:18, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Fist of the north star

Gyro and Johnny

It's mentioned that Steel Ball Run will be considered a part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure now, yet Gyro Zeppeli is not considered a confirmed support character nor is Johnny Joestar is Johnny Joestar considered a helper. Seems like an inconsistancy to me. --72.138.133.124 23:02, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

    • It is considered that since in a scan it was annoucned that parts 1-7 would appear, and little time before it was announced that Steel Ball Run was part of JoJo's universe, no info has been added about Gyro or Johnny, since there are chances they both might get upgraded to battle and support, and it is prefered not to put fake or unconfirmed info.
      • Here's to the good ol' heroes of old. To Jonathan, To Joseph, To Jotaro, To Josuke, To Giorno, To Jolyne, and of course, our favorite cripple, Johnny. - Malomeat 18:51, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
        • Just so you know, I pretty much listed all of the Joestars. They all have Wikipedia articles too (except for Johnny). - Malomeat 04:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
        • So they were deleted? ...Don't we now have seemingly no basis for information? I myself haven't seen the scans that show that there are 8-size komas, that Mello is a koma, that Majin Buu is a koma, that Jonathan Joestar is a koma, that Joseph Joestar is a koma, or that Jolyne Kujo is a koma.--72.138.133.124 04:28, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
        • 8-koma are in the video in the website, Mello and L were announced in the scan that showed the color version of the scan with Near and Light, Majin Buu was seen in the video also, and all if you remember right, I already told you all heros from part 1-7 would appear (Heros meaning main characters), you are a little back at info .-. Arkadian 14:48, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
        • Well, now I know, which is cool for me, (Gotta check out that video), but it's not really validated in the article.--72.138.133.124 22:25, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't know you guys but some of the series added to JUS are just kind of ridiculous, seriously, some of those would only be recognized by ancient manga readers like a father or grandfather. And now that I think about it, they're missing some actual popular Shonen Jump mangas such as Claymore, Zombie powder, Beet or even that 1 Volume manga SandLand. Sandand Claymore would have probably been ok not to add them since neither is really too popular but Zombie Powder? I mean, it is a very successful manga created by the creator of Bleach, Tite Kubo and is not new either, in fact, it was the first manga he created. A lot of characters in that manga would have been very successful fighting in the game, such as Gamma. SJ didn't remember these famous character but they did remember those 1960's characters. Is kind of ironic, in a way. - Mega-Japan 21:33, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

  • What I'm trying to say is, we can't let these things be lost to the past. What if, 30 years from now, your kids play a Shonen Jump game similar to this? Would you not want them to see characters like Naruto and Ichigo that were an integral part of your childhood? - Malomeat 04:04, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
P.S. Cobra is the Shit.
Adding to this: Claymore and Beet are both "Monthly Shonen Jump" series. If Shueisha wants to add monthly characters to the game later, they will, but the game is Weekly Jump. And while popularity and memory is fickle regarding Jump series, people do know their favorites and what they wanted. Seeing a series like Cobra getting representation even though its from the late 1970's/early 1980s is impressive for those who remember or asked for it. (especially since its not a huge, defining series like many of the other representatives from the '70s and '80s...though when something like "Sakigake! Otokojuku" gets in, which hardly anyone knows in this country compared to the likes of the Toriyama works, then it shows how little we Americans know of the past Jump series. As for the current series and characters in the future...well something tells me Luffy is or will be on Goku's level, with maybe Naruto and Ichigo probably on a "memorable but not legendary" tier the likes of Yusuke Urameshi. (but don't quote me on that) -StrangerAtaru 14:59, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Well, thanks a lot for the information, you were really helpful. One thing though, you didn't mention Zombie Powder. Gamma could really be an awesome character in the game. Even though the series were really short...Mega-Japan 24:01, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
I think that Zombie Powder is more along the lines of a "shorter but cult" series, sort of like Pretty Face or Mieru Hito are. It might be cool to see a couple cult series get in, but there are probably several other series standing in line ahead of them or maybe they aren't as remembered in Japan as they are here. (then again, if Kubo had two memorable series in the same game, that would put him up there with Toriyama, Togashi and Watsuki for double representation) -StrangerAtaru 13:43, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Maybe you are just stupid or something, but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie_Powder a cancelled series doesn't sound like it was popular...Besides, it wasn't very long anyway >_>69.242.175.18 20:17, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Are you out of your mind or have you gone insane? Do you have any idea of how popular Zombie Powder was during the day it was releasing its chapters? I admit that the ending was absurb (SP?) but that doesn't make it a bad manga (unlike Death Note whose ending was 100% pathetic). Tite Kubo is an awesome manga-ka, I mean, just look at Bleach. I'm sure he had some reasons for that manga ending, he'll probably release a sequel one day, I mean, who knows...

@StrangerAtaru: Yeah, I get your point, and thanks once again. Though I still don't think it's a reason to leave the manga out but anyway... It did surprise me that one of my favorite anime, Captain Tsubasa was included in the game and to be honest, I didn't even know that the series came from Shonen Jump. Also, I wonder if the Beelzebub from SandLand would have been a decent character, putting Toriyama in the top with three mangas in XD. - Mega-Japan 18:01, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

The thing is, Arkadian, that several other series in this game were cancelled as well. Most noticably Buso Renkin. - Malomeat 04:36, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • But Buso Renkin lasted enough to make Kazuki a really decent character (10 volumes IIRC), though I do not have an argument against saying all his attacks were kind of the same >.>. Zombie Powder, on the other hand, didn't even last that (4 volumes IIRC), AT THE MOST, Gamma would be able to reach support, the manga wasn't popular enough. Arkadian 05:49, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • The manga wasn't popular? Now I think you starting to talk non-sense. Besides, I'm sure Gamma would be good enough to make a fighting character or AT LEAST a support character... - Mega-Japan 13:01, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • According to the Wiki, there are 2 reasons the manga was canceled, 1.- The author was passing though a trauma or something and 2.- It got very few fan letters in the time it ran, so no, I wasn't saying it wasn't popular cause I didn't like it (Just for the record, I really liked it), but because as a matter of fact, it WASN'T popular enough. Arkadian 21:13, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
I think we agree on this: Zombie Powder didn't do that well and various things lead it to end. It gained a cult status due to how people discovered and loved what Kubo was doing, but who knows if or whether Kubo will ever go back to it thanks to the success of Bleach. (something tells me that perhaps some ideas he had for the former leaked into Bleach...but I am not a mind-reader for Kubo) On the other hand, there are probably plenty of other series that didn't make it in...but outside many of the series that we knew as in from go, most of the ones chosen from the game were chosen by the Japanese public. While ZP is regarded well here, who knows if anyone there remembers it outside "that series before Bleach that Kubo did". -StrangerAtaru 17:29, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Scans

That section needs some serious reformatting. I'm half tempted to just delete the whole thing. 199.126.137.209 01:36, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Maybe we should describe the scans instead of just listing them. - Malomeat 10:14, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Sigh ... I got some free time so I'll try to add what appears on each scan. Arkadian 01:21, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

There's a scan that claims to have Goku and Vegeta gathering energy: that looks a lot like one of Goku's Up+X specials (Where he charges up and then launces a flurry of attacks) and Vegeta's punt (Down+B or Y). Should it be noted that Gotenks now has a help koma, instead of being formed out of two komas?--72.138.133.124 01:51, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
I personally found the scans very useful, checking the site every wednesday for new ones, perhaps someone could create a new sub-section listing them (much like how anime episodes are listed on anime pages). To be honest, with the release of the game on the horizon, this is of no major priority however!!

This 'scan' "[37] - Shows a picture of Luffy's 8-koma and an action he does." links to an ad. website, or so it does for me. It needs to be deleted.69.242.128.79 23:38, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

... It just does for you ... for me it shows the picture, if what you are talking about is what's AROUND the picture, those are just the ads from the picture hosting site .... also ... that website is also used in most of the other screens Arkadian 23:44, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Scan 34 claims that Kid Buu will be playable. From what I can see, Kid Buu is not being used as a player character there, but the starts signifying the player character are for a character that is below the screen (If you can see, there's an arrow below the stars). Scan 36 seems like he's playable character, though. --72.138.133.124 00:25, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Oh, that's not weird, it seems the arrow points below most of time, even if the character is one screen, you can see the playable icon on Vegetto since he is a little higher than Buu, for example, in scan 21, you can see most of playable characters and you know they are being controlled, yet, the arrow still points in other direction. Arkadian 00:49, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Transformations

  • There were some in Super Stars: Goku's four-koma was normal Goku, the five-koma and above were Super Saiyan. The same went for Vegeta and Gotenks. For Gohan, the four-koma was Super Saiyan, and the five-koma is Super Saiyan 2. Yoh has a different arm armour in his largest koma. There seems to be some from the scans, should be mention them? It looks like Goku's eight-koma is Super Saiyan 2, Ichigo's has his final release of his sword, Naruto's has his one tailed fox-demon, Bobobo is in his new style, Seiya has his gold armour... I'm basing this off scan 59, in case anyone wants to check it out. --Protomanzero 03:58, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

This is true for all of the above except Goku - his eight koma is Vegetto.

Also for Naruto, his 8 koma is one tail sprite but for his specials he transforms into the 4 tails as seen in the manga. Same for Bobo, his special is his new look.

ALRIGHT, WHO ERASED ALL THE NEW CHANGES?!?

In case you were wondering, this game is out. Those are the characters in the game. If you feel like doing somehting like this again you need to post something in the discussion section. --69.242.175.18 11:37, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing it.

Max Komas

Do you think we'd be giving away too much information if we gave away the max-sized komas for characters? We might edit the JSS page to include that, too. It's just because I'm sure a lot of people would like to know how large their favourite characters get, and which characters get 8-komas.--Protomanzero 23:21, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Fixing the page

Thinking: now that the game is pretty much out, are we going to make the page a bit more like the one for the first game? I don't think we even need the "confirmed series" section anymore since we know what series are in it...all we really need is maybe adjust the list a bit and eliminate the scans as data comes in on how to play the game. -StrangerAtaru 00:06, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Seconded. plus rom. - Malomeat 00:11, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
OK, the info is mostly up now, so I think we can get rid of the preperatory stuff, such as the scans and the "series" part (since all the characters show them off...sort of like the JSS page). -StrangerAtaru 01:32, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Major cleanup needed

The confirmed characters section is just one long mess. The table isn't working. Does original appearance even matter? This isn't a fan's guide, it's an encyclopedia. If people want to know that detail, they can go to the character's article. This is a video game article, not an article to explain their anime and/or magna appearances. Look at other fighting game articles for help, they certainly don't look like this cluttered long mess. I'm not sure what else could be done to fix it, but it's certainly not helping the article as it is now. RobJ1981

The Original Appearance table is actually more important than the characters themselves. The fictional characters are just that, fictional, while the franchises they come from are real, so our key encyclopedic concern should be listing those franchises. Also note that not every character will have their own article. --tjstrf talk 07:56, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Why were the character and area lists put back into the article? They're clear violators of WP:NOT#REPOSITORY and WP:Embedded list. It's obvious that we can't turn that much list into prose, so the only options are to make it a stand alone list or to remove the information entirely.--SeizureDog 11:07, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
They were put back in because people didn't even care to notice cleanup tags or this post. The page is a huge mess. This article is too crufty and cluttered, and won't get past that if people just revert and re-add cluttered lists. Also: the list articles were a good idea, but still need cleanup. Copying clutter from one place to another isn't the solution. RobJ1981 16:41, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
What actually needs to be done is have a list of characters from both games, and have little markings as to who is in both or whatnot.--SeizureDog 23:48, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Alright, until further notice, when someone figures out what to do with the character information and where or whether they are needed, I removed both that list and the arena list from the entry. The only thing really needed is the list of series in the game. If anyone wants to create a list like someone proposed for both games as a seperate article, then maybe that is what is needed to satisfy the editors. -StrangerAtaru 14:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

JUSTP?

The translation project at http://crisistunity.com/justp/ is pretty big. I think that it deserves a paragraph on the wiki page don't you think? I don't know if it's notable enough to be included in the article, but I'm doing it anyways. If you disagree you can remove it. 71.30.165.133 05:41, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

FFS, please next time wait for aprovation, it's not that it isn't notable enough, just read the guidelines next time. Arkadian 13:31, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Eh... sorry about that. I'll try to follow the rules next time. 151.213.190.42 16:40, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Any chance of a sequel or know who i can contact to ask about this?

As it says in the title thingy.. 84.13.123.162 23:26, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z

I saw the scans and I saw that most of the Dragon Ball characters are mostly from Dragon Ball Z. I mean Goku dosen't transform into a Super Saiyan as a kid and Frieza, Vegito and Vegeta dosen't appear in Dragon Ball. SuperSaiyanCrash 19:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Dragon Ball Z is only used for the anime and the English manga to keep people from being confused. The actual manga is called Dragon Ball. Nemu 02:50, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
This is not an English game, hence we use Dragon Ball. If it were to be released in English, then Z might be appropriate. --tjstrf talk 03:09, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Like Nemu mentioned, the title of Dragon Ball Z is only used for anime. Throughout the entire manga series the title has always been called Dragon Ball. Since this is "Jump" Ultimate Stars, we should follow title appeared on Jump as the game is based on manga rather than the anime. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.110.14.2 (talk) 04:27, 3 January 2007 (UTC).
Yeah Kid Goku to SS4 and other stuff from GT isn't in because it was never actual manga. Which the game is based on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.123.162 (talk) 23:31, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

# of Series that include playable characters

I counted, and of the 41 series represented, only 27 of these francises include playable characters.

Should there be a statement someware in the article that informs this statement? Superjustinbros. (talk) 20:31, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

I just figured out that 54 characters are playable. Superjustinbros. (talk) 20:32, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Missing Characters

  • How come Zatch, Ed Elric, Naota Nandab, Pikachu, Sonic, Mechazawa, and Ranma aren't in this game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kid Sonic (talkcontribs) 14:32, 6 November, 2006 (UTC)

  • So let someone else reply with more reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kid Sonic (talkcontribs) 22:38, 6 November, 2006 (UTC)
    • Does this really needs to be answer? It's kind of a stupid question, indeed. Why doesn't s/he just google it... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mega-Japan (talkcontribs) 23:01, 6 November, 2006 (UTC)
    • Yes, it's a question! You're supposed to answer those. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kid Sonic (talkcontribs) 06:23, 7 November, 2006 (UTC)
      • I've head similar questions to this before (When is Kirby/EarthBound come out for the PlayStation?), so I'll answer. Jump Superstars and Jump Ultimate Stars are based off of the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine by Sheuisha. All the characters in Jump Superstars were from Weekly Shonen Jump. Unless they somehow got the legal rights (Which generally costs money), Jump Ultimate Stars can only have Shonen Jump characters. Fullmetal Alchemist was published in Monthly Shonen Gangan which is owned by Square Enix, not Sheuisha (Who owns Shonen Jump). FLCL was released by Gainax, not Sheuisha. Pokemon is owned by Nintendo, not Sheuisha. Sonic is owned by SEGA, not Sheuisha. Inu Yasha and Ranma were published in Weekly Shonen Sunday, which is made by Shogakukan, not Sheuisha. Cromartie High School was published in Shonen Magazine, which is by Kodansha, not Sheuisha. Hense, none of these characters will appear in a game for Shonen Jump characters, at least not without a significant sum of money being paid.--72.138.133.124 21:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
      • How much money? Kid Sonic
  • In short, as mentioned before, the title "JUMP" Ultimate Stars would somehow require the titles included to be Shonen Jump Magazine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.110.63.120 (talk) 04:12, 22 November, 2006 (UTC)

Sequel

It's been around 2 years and there still isn't a sequel. I know Wikipedia's not a forum but still I have to ask: Do you guys think there will be a sequel? RyugaRyuzaki (talk) 19:11, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Please stop promoting your website

Someone keeps inserting a link to a website in the very first sentence of the article. This link is already included in the external links section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AgentPlastic (talkcontribs) 12:12, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Fix'd. I left it in the links section though. But personally I don't think it's notable enough to even have a place here on Wikipedia but I'll leave it there for now in order to thwart edit wars until someone with power comes along and deems it unnecessary.--96.15.136.35 (talk) 16:59, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

New characters

Please add new characters if you know them, I just uploaded a bunch to Bleach.

English

Don't be obtuse. I'm saying that this article would benefit from mentioning how easy the game menus are to navigate by people who can't read Japanese. Obviously this article will be of most interest to those who are interested in Japanese manga and games and are primarily English speakers, therefore it is a relevant point to make.

I would love to see it too. But the simple fact that it would be too costly for an English company to pick up all 41 title's translation rights and then patching the game is way too costly, the final price will be around $80 for a cartridge. More importantly there is still the fan translation versus company translation. The final product will likely to be less than desirable for the fans.

'Decks' Section, bad description

The way the article reads now, it is not clear that this is primarily a fighting game, although that is mentioned in the intro, the article then says that "The bulk of the gameplay is based around using koma ...that represent characters to create decks on a four by five grid. Koma come in various shapes and sizes, taking up one to eight blocks" blah blah blah, it makes the game sound like a puzzle game. The bulk of gameplay is actually made up of battles.

I suggest condensing the decks section, it doesn't have to take 3 paragraphs of the article to describe one aspect of the game. It was well written, but not in balance with the rest of the article.
