Ginsberg wrote the poem in a single 40-hour session while on a cocktail familiar to him of dexedrine (a psychostimulant amphetamine), LSD, and coffee.

Unsourced and very likely false material I removed is above Coruscus 18:57, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Something's amiss in the description here, he wrote the poem in one forty-hour session which stretched all the way from 1957 to 1959? --Oolong 21:28, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have the City Lights edition and will check when I get home; perhaps the introduction gives some info. Please feel free to yell at me on my talk page if I forget to follow up. Postdlf 18:59, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If it's the newer edition, it might not be the same. The original was about 4.5x4.5 inches and had a paper cover, as far as I know. My dad had a copy of that edition that I spilled coffee on a few years back, otherwise I'd check Coruscus 19:04, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, let's at least mention the coffee spill in the article. That would add some local color.83.28.66.183 (talk) 13:55, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But all seriousness aside, there is another entry purportedly for the book which Kaddish is in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaddish_and_Other_Poems but that entry actually only addresses Kaddish, so it should be merged into this article and then deleted (unless the volume "Kaddish and Other Poems" deserves a separate entry).83.28.66.183 (talk) 14:00, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
