Notability

[edit]

Give this article a bit of time to find references... I shall try and do so later on today (I am not the creator). The band has certainly released multiple albums on notable labels (Diehard for instance... not article currently, but one could easily be created). Finding third party sources should be a doddle. I don't think that the record labels would be considered major (at least not by the list at Record label). They might, however fall under notable independent. If it is a notable Danish label, is the band relevant to the English Wikipedia? -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 15:44, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I found a source in the Allmusic's website. Regards, Cannibaloki 16:01, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call that a reliable source for establishing notability. I have a friend who's band is on there (I didn't know they were, but I just checked) and they are definitely not notable. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 17:03, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
An Allmusic bio is actually a fantastic source for establishing notability; your personal opinion and anecdotal comment concerning your mate's band is rather unimportant here. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 17:15, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Added the Rockdetector bio (also a reliable source), and a very quick Google for coverage reveals interviews here, here, here, here etc. I can probably find hard copy sources in under 24 hours, although I think at this point it's somewhat unnecessary. Aren't you supposed to look for sources yourself before trying to speedy an article or take it to AfD? Blackmetalbaz (talk) 17:26, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you are not familiar with WP:PROVEIT. As you can see, I did not tag the article for speedy deletion, I'm just trying to help draw out whatever reliable sources might support notability from people who might be more familiar with the subject. AfD is not a bad thing and should not be misunderstood as a slight against something that you think is important. Articles that survive AfD have a good chance at wide exposure and being significantly improved. All the maintenance tags we have tend to do what they're supposed to. They get interested editors to improve the articles.
I do have, what I believe are, valid concerns about calling Rockdetector and AllMusic reliable sources. Rockdetector has plans to allow users to add information to their database. This would place it in the realm of a blog. Interviews cited above count against notability according to WP:BAND#1. The fact that a band is listed in AllMusic clearly does not impart notability, so that cannot be the only source to support notability. That's all I'm saying. Perhaps others may chime in to give me a good trout slap if I am wrong. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 18:51, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am perfectly familiar with the guidelines cited above. As I have pointed out, the band has already passed WP:MUSIC owing to the album releases. And, as I have pointed out elsewhere, at present Rockdetector passes WP:RS with ease, owing to its content being published by a third-party source, in this case Cherry Red.
