From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello to all who are interested in Lake George. My family has a long history on the lake and feel much kinship with it. For such a small lake, we believe there is a lot of history to be told. I've begun compiling information and building this wikipedia entry, but I need your help if we are to truly capture the lake's history.

As part of this process, I'd really like to capture the primary source material that I know is out there. This material includes oral histories, documentation about the lake, etc. Please feel free to leave me messages on my Talk Page or by emailing to the Lake George listserv on Yahoo Groups.

Interesting topics for which I have almost no documentation include:

  • The discussion and debate over dredging the marshes
  • The discussion and debate about eminent domain
  • The history of Indian burial mounds
  • The history of lake George prior to Roe Chase's 1906 account
  • The history of the bar that used to be on the West shore of the lake
  • Information about the battle with Milfoil

Remember, you can talk to all those interested in this article by clicking "edit this page" at the top of this page and adding your thoughts to mine. Also remember that Wikipedia has a Neutral Point of View (NPOV) philosophy. I realize many of you reading this article will be new to Wikipedia...please don't hesitate to ask for help as I will be glad to assist in anyway I can. Thanks and let's make this a great page. Who is George Arbuckle=

[edit]

A Google search turned up this link to a George Arbuckle of about the right age to be a surveyor. The email address for the site's owner bounced. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/r/o/RON-A-BROOKS/GENE3-0001.html

It would be interesting to see if we could track down this Surveyor and link it in more closely. Theflyer 00:00, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Water millfoil questions

[edit]

Questions to be answered:

  • When was it first seen?
  • What steps have been taken, by whom, when? Where are the sources to document this activity?
  • What is the status of milfoil?

The Mob's relationship to Lake George

[edit]

I read an article in the USAToday (3/10/06) about the mob. It referrenced a mob historian by the name of Selwyn Raab; maybe he can help specificity to the statements that the Chicago mob used to come to the lake.
