Name

[edit]

So the name of the unit - and consequently, the article - is a bit of a mess right now. The current information on the Jaeger Brigade website calls the unit "Rovaniemi Air Defence Battalion". The article name is "Lapland Air Defence Battalion", the lead starts with "Lapland Air Defence Regiment" and the Organization section calls the unit "Rovaniemi Air Defence Battalion". I propose to rename the article to "Rovaniemi Air Defence Battalion" and to use that name throughout the article, except in the (currently) second sentence, which provides the history as "Lapland Air Defence Regiment". Any objections? -Ljleppan (talk) 08:09, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article itself is bit of a mess, that's true, but the problem is that this page was originally intended for Lapland Anti Air Regiment, which historically included Rovaniemi and Oulu Air Defence Battalions. The regiment itself was formed in 1989, with the Rovaniemi air defence battalion having roots in the wartime and having been acting with the name since year 1974. The Lapland Anti-Air Regiment was disbanded in the FDF reform in 2014 and the Rovaniemi Air Defence Battalion was attached to the Jaeger Brigade. This article mixes between the two. I'd rather propose to revert the changes done to the original article changing the name to wrong "Lapland Air Defence Battalion" and instead making a new page for "Rovaniemi Air Defence Battalion", which is different thing, being the battalion which formerly was independent, then under the regiment and now under the Jaeger Brigade. This sounds reasonable, but does highlight how lacking our sourcing currently is. I think I have a book about broad-strokes FDF unit histories somewhere that might help a bit, but if you have tips about reliable sources, Caselius, I'd greatly appreciate any pointers.
