Date race is run on

[edit]

Shouldn't there be some explanation as to why the race isn't annually run on June 16th, Bloomsday? [signed] FLORIDA BRYAN — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.85.206.211 (talk) 17:11, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see where Kardong took any inspiration from Joyce's Ulysses for the marathon. He is quoted as stating that the event was a start-up for the Spokane Lilac Festival, so something about "lilacs blooming." Kardong also mentioned it rhymed with 'doomsday' though there is no explanation as to why that is significant (see reference #1 in the article). But I see no mention of James Joyce or the international "Bloomsday" celebration of Ulysses. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Weiji2001 (talkcontribs) 22:01, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is a large hill on course that is nicknamed 'doomsday.' For recreational runners, actually running up doomsday hill is an accomplishment. As for not celebrating Ulysses - nope, we are hicks in the sticks, the organizers were not thinking literature at all when they named the race. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:602:9A00:D2C0:2853:368A:C1D5:BD5A (talk) 15:28, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
