1902 Opening Day starting pitcher

[edit]

The page here, as well as 1902 Boston Americans season both have listed Bill Dinneen as the Opening Day starter. However, this is contradicted by contemporary newspaper accounts, as well as the season summary on Retrosheet. Sources via the 'Ref.' column on the page here, do not say who the Opening Day starter was; the Baseball Almanac page says "No Opening Day Information Available". Additional sources do say who it was:

Each of the above has the starting pitcher as (no surprise) Cy Young. Dinneen started the second game of the season, on April 23 in Washington. Thus I am updating this page, and related content (e.g. 1902 Boston Americans team page, and the Red Sox opening day starting pitcher template) accordingly. 1903 Opening Day starting pitcher

[edit]

Similar to the above... Cy Young listed, but contradicted by Retrosheet and contemporary newspaper accounts:

  • Retrosheet game log for the 1903 Boston Americans is here
  • The Boston Globe summary of the doubleheader is here
    • Closeup of the box score is here

George Winter started the first game; Young started the second. I'll update content accordingly. Dmoore5556 (talk) 04:55, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
