Merge?

[edit]

I support merging the list of CEGEPs and list of colleges in Quebec. I would say merge into the list of colleges, which distinguishes based on public or private. I think that's useful information. If there's no opposition I'll go ahead with it shortly. Cpastern 20:56, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does the list of colleges only list institutions that offer DEC and AEC programs? If not, perhaps the list should be a table with a tick mark indicating that it offers DEC and/or AEC programs or not. 70.55.84.207 12:15, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if the college is a list of all colleges, then the CEGEP list is restricted to colleges offering AEC and DEC programs... but the college list does not indicate AEC and DEC offering institutions... and the contents of the CEGEP list is split between sections on the college list... so a separate list might be more clear? 70.51.9.232 06:51, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heum... all collegial institutions in Québec offers AEC or DEC programs... there are high schools name colleges, but the provincial government does not call them like that on their website. Colleges are in the category "superior teaching", with universities. Strictly speaking, a Cégep is a public college, who is not governemental nor technological public school. The difference between the two lists is that this CEGEP list includes only the public colleges that are technically referred to as CEGEPs, while the other has both the CEGEPs and other private schools offering the same or similar programs. This CEGEP list has the exact same content as the CEGEP section of the college list, with only different ordering. It is completely redundant.

I believe the law requires CEGEPs to offer both the DEC and AEC (both pre-university and technical) programs, so having tick marks on this CEGEP-only list wouldn't be very useful. It might be more useful on the broader List of colleges in Quebec, since some private colleges offer only one or the other, or neither, in the case of the College international Marie de France. However, I would prefer to just make an external link to someplace like the Association of private colleges in Quebec (though that particular link is in French) or on each college's article specify which program(s) they offer. In either case, that argument doesn't support keeping this list, only suggests what should be done with the other. Cpastern 21:31, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
