adding non-notable names to the list of alumni

[edit]

The usual practice is to add names to a list of notable alumni after they have a Wikipedia biography and there is a reliable source confirming they are an alumni. Many of the names in this article did not have a Wikipedia biography and did not have references to any sources. Having a biography is our usual way of verifying notability and having a reference is our usual way of verifying alumni status. In small groups I linked all names within the group and then removed red-link names that had no citations in a two edit sequence. Eventually I worked through all the groupings in the article. Multiple times editors have restored all of the names I had removed without providing any references or adjustments to wikilinks to connect to an existing biography. I some cases the edit summary was 'unreasonable deleted'. I have reverted all but the last of those restores leaving detailed explanations on the IP editors talk page. There was no response to my talk page messages. The burden is on the restorer of challenged material to provide citations to support the content. I have no problem with editors re-adding individual names once they have a biography and there is a reliable source confirming they attended. However the editors restoring what appear to non-notable names have not met their burden and I feel it is reasonable to again revert to the article version with the red-link no reference names gone. I've added this discussion first to provide other editors an opportunity to present other points of view and hopefully reach consensus. Gab4gab (talk) 11:43, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Given a lack of push back here I am again removing names that don't appear to satisfy the criteria for inclusion: (1) being notable and (2) having attended. (see WP:LISTPEOPLE) Some of the names may qualify but it can't be verified because they have no references and don't have a Wikipedia biography. Gab4gab (talk) 12:42, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
