Required Attempts[edit]

The NFL requires a minimum number of attempts when ranking players in seasonal completion percentage leaders. As we know, this is so that players don't end up as seasonal leaders after single digit pass attempts. I have found two sources that state different methods:

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/about/minimums.htm (Prior to 1976, 10 pass attempts per team game. 1976-1977, 12 pass attempts per team game. 1978-now, 14 pass attempts per team game)

https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/stats/passing#yards (15 Attempts, Multiplied By Number of Weeks, Divided By 2)

Len Dawson[edit]

If the total number that player x led the league is only supposed to include the NFL, then why is Lenny Dawson listed as having 8 under the "Most titles" category? Alielmi1207 (talk) 01:12, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dawson lead in this category in two separate leagues that he was a part of, which is why we don't add the number next to Dawson's entry in the NFL table, that was his first time leading that league. However, because of the merger, AFL stats and accomplishments, such as AFL MVP, AFL All-Star, and All-AFL, were rolled into what the NFL recognizes as part of their history. There is a discrepancy when it states "Five quarterbacks have led the NFL in completion percentage in four different seasons ...", but singles out Dawson as having "achieved the same feat in the AFL". However, it then states that he "holds the NFL record for most consecutive seasons leading the league with six." Why does he need to be singled out in the former section, but not the latter? Also, if the NFL recognizes the AFL stats, then his 8 seasons total should be included in the "Completion percentage leaders" section as well. Alielmi1207 (talk) 21:49, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, since Len Dawson is being acknowledged in the "Most titles" section of this article, then he should also be acknowledged in the "Most titles" section of the "List of National Football League annual passer rating leaders" article. Alielmi1207 (talk) 00:53, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's a matter of semantics. Dawson himself lead a separate league in which the stats were absorbed. They have the most titles based on the NFL history books but they do not have the most times leading the NFL. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:34, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
