Reverts by Montell 74[edit]

Could you please explain why you've reverted my edits? You've left a message on my talk page saying Please discuss you changes and reasons on talk page making it seem like I either left no summary with my edits or did something wildly controversial. The summary I've left seems pretty clear to me: rm country names - flags do reasonable job, disambig, full-width table. It's not for you seemingly.

So, I'd appreciate if you'd explain:

  1. what was not clear in the edit summary, that you've felt the need to revert my changes and initiate this discussion.
  2. which of my changes do you disagree and why?

Thanks for answer. First please pay attention to almost all athletics records lists and its consistent use of format. Second there is no need to remove country names. If you want to remove "something", then there is possibly a compromise to remove national flags, because they should not be used to indicate venues, as this does not provide additional value per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Icons. I beg your pardon, did I miss your answer to my first question? As I see it, you've started edit war purely out of spite. There was nothing "unclear" about my edit summary. I don't want to remove something, I want to not overload already packed table and make an efficient use of space. I don't see any need to have either the flag or the country in the list - it only creates maintenance difficulty and gives no additional value to the reader. I've already started the cleanup, but I hope you don't imply that all the other pages in the series should be also fixed by me? I'm not sure how foolishly striving for consistency let's any one start any improvement to the outdated source of the page. Oh! I know, I'll keep out of these pages and let you reign here unquestioned. That's what you're after, isn't it? 93.182.179.223 (talk) 16:51, 7 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
May you would like to decide what is foolishly? So thats why a talk page is a good place to discuss. So I don't think these pages are overloaded by country names. For you maybe its a cleanup, for other users maybe its deletion of information. So why when there is enough space and no need? Montell 74 (talk) 17:10, 7 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, what User:Montell 74 is saying does seem to be the case regarding the standard on other countries' record pages - see List of Malian records in athletics, List of Swiss records in athletics, List of Hong Kong records in athletics as three random examples. I am personally sympathetic to your argument that the flags convey the information well particularly because they are wikilinked to the country in question, but I also think it would be best to have consistency across the articles in which case this would need to be a wider discussion. On second look at what was linked above, Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Icons#Accompany flags with country names seems to require the country be written out, at least for the first use of each flag. If that's the case, I think now that it would be odd and IMO unsightly to not be consistent about listing the country throughout. Sauzer (talk) 00:13, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
