Article name change?[edit]

Since I've just added many others types, traditions, and systems to this list, perhaps this article's name should be changed to List of astrological traditions and types or something similar? -- 22:18, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Or change to List of astrological traditions, types, and systems? -- 22:31, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I was planning on creating a separate page for these topics, but I haven't yet as I haven't quite decided on the correct title of the page or organizational scope. This page, however, is intended to be specifically for traditions, so I will accommodate your entries on their own list and we can decide on a name as we go along. — Sam 22:44, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Like I say below, we don't need all of these separate pages, lists, and articles when these topics are so closely related...the categories that you maintain are just fine (types vs. traditions) but since they are so similar we might as well leave them all in one list. We don't want to create even more confusion and disorder by having 4 or 5 separate lists for all of the types, traditions, systems, esoteric schools, recent developments, etc. They are all fine in one place, on this one list (we just need to rename it); this will allow Wikipedia users to get a more holistic view of the subject. -- 23:30, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Proposed move/rename[edit]

I'm very glad that you created this list User:Samuella, but I think that it would be best to leave these all in a central location, all of them in one list (just rename this list to List of astrological traditions, types, and systems in order to be all inclusive); the astrology articles and categories are already so splintered and disorganized, so I think that keeping ALL of the various traditions, types, and systems together would be best and allow people to get a holistic view. I've been an astrologer for decades and I'm confused by all of these differing labels that are popping up here on Wikipedia; for instance, you just created ANOTHER list (List of astrological types: that's not a correct article/list name) but yet you call them "applications" on that list. So let us please keep them in one place for a while while we figure this out. -- 23:20, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I disagree:

  • What exactly is confusing about having separate pages? I suppose it's confusing that bees and wasps have two different articles, too, huh? Astrology is a complex field. Complexity calls for organization and differentiation. In organizing astrological subtopics there is a big differentiation between traditions (that is, different approach to the fundamental concept; Western astrology for example) and applications of those traditions (that is, systematic ways of applying the tradition; Western natal astrology for example). Holistics are for the main astrology article and category.
  • One of the reasons this page exists is to offer a non-category hub for the astrology navigational template. There's no way every tradition can be linked in the template and maintain its compact size. The "More" link in the template, if you notice, links here. Since the nav template is an important resource that is likely to be permanent, it needs a place to elaborate on traditions and traditions only. This page serves that purpose. Likewise, the template also lists a selection of applications of astrology. These are too numerous to include as well, and it calls for a separate list. — Sam 18:49, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it be moved. --Stemonitis 09:06, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Native American Astrology[edit]

Well, I'm not sure "is there any article about this topic in Wikipedia?" (I have tried to find, but found nothing about Native American Astrology.) Could you please tell me if there is not, and desire some information about Native American astrology. I'm not an expert, but I have a book about it, and I want to share this information in case of there is no article about.

Thanks you all in advance.

PS. I'm new hear and I have to admit that I will have some problems about my English language and also some computer code (or something like that???)when I have to edit the article(such as the code when I want to add some table and etc.).It would be your great kindness, if you could advise me about these matters. PS2. umm..m if I don't recieve any answer in about 2-3 days, I "will" add the information about Native American Astrology roughly in this part. So, it is up to your decision if they are OK, you can add all information in the real article. I will cite the reference. 99th NIGHT (talk) 15:40, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Other Thoughts[edit]

Looking at the photo of the Ultra Deep Field, the thought arises, "Does the Divine use on a billion different worlds a billion different astrologies to explore and communicate with Creation?" RJBaran (talk) 19:15, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Correlation and origins?[edit]

Have not some of the listed "traditions, types, and systems" sprung from the same origin? For example Western astrology and Indian astrology from Ancient Egypt-Mesopotamia astrology. But this is not stated in the article.

And the list are grouped oddly: for example Chinese astrology / Indian astrology / Sri Lankan Astrology (Sinhalese Astrology) / Western astrology with Electional astrology / Horary astrology / Horoscopic astrology / Natal astrology and with Sidereal astrology / Tropical astrology. Whereas Agricultural astrology / Mundane astrology / Medical astrology / and so on are grouped with Celtic astrology / Hellenistic astrology / and so on. -- (talk) 08:36, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
