Bands v. Solo artists[edit]

Per the discussion on pee2000 regarding this list, This list is reserved for bands only and not "musical artists" as mentioned in the heading. I would edit the header but I am dumb and eat a dozen donuts for breakfast everyday.

so no solo musical artists, bands only — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 22:58, 13 April 2010‎

Note: It has been suggested at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of bhangra bands that the article should be renamed to either List of Bhangra artists, List of Bhangra musical artists, or some other name that would be inclusive of both bands as well as solo artists. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 15:56, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

former members of bands who have gone solo[edit]

We have been running into an issue with former members of bands (vocalists, n such) who have tried tying in their current folkhop releases under the heading of their former band name (eg. joginder doe of the does releasing new album with dj ganjookhandeytattoowala). I think it is quite unfortunate that I have to edit these types of entries as one member of a band does not represent the band's sound hence its unfair for them to try to connect the two. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 19:13, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

uncited information and redlinks[edit]

This page needs massive cleanup; the history shows that this has been attempted, but has been reverted each time.

The page is entirely unsourced, listing bands that fail to meet WP:BAND guidelines. A claim was made that the material is sourced from cassette covers and bands themselves, but with no evidence of citations or sources presented this is entirely original research with no verifiability (verifiability being one of Wikipedia's core policies). --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 14:03, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, many of the links were to articles that are not musical groups at all, such as Ace or Awaara. I checked every link to an existing article, following disambiguation or see also listings and found no existing article to the band. Or if I did, like with Achanak, I corrected the link. I have again removed these links and added links to existing articles found through the aforementioned method or added from Category:Bhangra musical groups. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 17:40, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ABSOLUTELY NO PA ACTS SHOULD BE ALLOWED[edit]

Somebody that goes by the handle Barek keeps inserting JOSH, a PA act from Canada into the "list of bhangra BANDS". Please refrain from vandalism. In your opinion Josh might be a great PA act, but they do not fit the definition of a live Bhangra band — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 21:02, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not confuse list of bhangra bands with list of punjabi singers. acts like Josh should be listed under "list of punjabi singers or pop acts". Djs such as RDB, tigerstyle, punjabi mc etc should also not be listed in this section. Listing them under bhangra bands would be the equivalent of listing pop acts like brittney spears or timbaland under a list of hard rock bands. please look up the definition of the word band before performing any deletions or additions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 23:18, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have NEVER inserted such content into the article - a simple check of the article history can prove this. As you can see from the article edit history, I have removed your repeated insertion of original research and bands not yet established as notable. Acts for which you have been twice blocked in the past. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 23:57, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

barek, do you think bhangra is a genre that should have an entry in wikipedia, if yes, do you think the bands that created the music should also be given entry. If yes, than how do you suppose you can edit out entries in a musical genre which you have no knowledge of, I believe its very ethnocentric of you. You can easily research on youtube or google and verify these bands as existing or having existed as part of the movement called bhangra. I mentioned JOSH a non band because I keep seeing it being re inserted when they clearly dont belong here. you dont see me trying to insert justin timberlake or lady gaga in the list of alternative bands do you? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 00:46, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You continue to make obviously false accusations that I have inserted Josh - something I have never done. This is easily provable by looking at the article history.
As to the edits I have made, you continue to edit war over the re-insertion of content based on your own original research (see WP:NOR), actions for which you have been twice blocked in the past. These issues were brought up over a year ago (see the older thread below above this one), and are issues that you have, thus far, never addressed.
If you feel the additions belong in the article, then to meet Wikipedia's policy on WP:verifiability, you should be able to support the additions with reliable sources, not by using non-verifiable claims that "the information is being sourced from cassette covers and bands themselves"[1]. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 01:01, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"In 1992, one of my earliest major assignments in music journalism was to probe this very question, but back then it seemed an explosion was on the way. I travelled the country, attending vibrant events and meeting all sorts of fascinating people. The gist of what they told me was this: records by Asian artists are actually outselling the Madonnas and Kylies, but these sales aren't registered because they're in underground Asian shops. Also, a new wave of young Asian bands was on the way "

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2008/may/01/whereisthenewasianwave bhangra was a form of underground music so you are not gonna find a lot of mainstream coverage but that doesnt mean the genre didnt exist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 01:11, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't a question about the genre existing. This is a question of verifiability and having reliable sources for entries on this list article. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 01:23, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

a reliable source to you is a fabrication to me. ethnocentric again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 01:27, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

if you read the link to the guardian newspaper Ive provided to you, the reference to the new pardesi music machine (just one of the bands you have repeatedly deleted) can be seen at the bottom of the article

the guardian article[edit]

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2008/may/01/whereisthenewasianwave cites new pardesi music machine (a band that has repeatedly been deleted by barek) at the bottom of the article. The guardian is a newspaper in the UK. Since wikipedia doesnt accept citations sourced to brown people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 01:37, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you continue to accuse Wikipedia of some sort of bias, you will never be listened to.—Ryulong (竜龙) 02:07, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

please read the sourced article, their will be a quiz on it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noxiousnews (talkcontribs) 02:29, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ANI discussion[edit]

For those not already aware, there is also a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#List of bhangra bands (again) regarding the above mentioned edits to this article. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 02:13, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Notable bands"[edit]

In order to justify their edits, watsup love me, hate me spew out your guts here

lets hear your sob storeyNoxiousnews (talk) 00:17, 27 October 2011 (UTC) recently changed the fundamental nature of the list. To get around the issue of the list being for "notable" bands, they removed the word "notable" with no discussion.[2][3] I disagree with this change, as it opens the door for arbitrary additions of any bands that would otherwise fail WP:BAND. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 02:57, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that should be undone, if not just getting rid of this whole article and letting a category deal with the 11 acts with articles.—Ryulong (竜龙) 03:01, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've sent this page to AFD. It does not appear to be a notable subject anyway.—Ryulong (竜龙) 03:12, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Punjabi by Nature[edit]

The entry Punjabi by Nature should have an explanation notifying readers of it not being Dj Punjabi by Nature. They are two seperate entities with the band being from Canada and the DJ from UK,Noxiousnews (talk) 03:42, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If there's going to be an article on that individual, then you should write DJ Punjabi by Nature. There is absolutely no need for an explanation of anything on this article. This is a list article. Not a disambiguation page.—Ryulong (竜龙) 03:43, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
