Updated October 9, 2015[edit]

I updated this with information from Brewers Association. I didn't include any that are in the 'planning' stage. It appears that Aloha Beer Co. may be closed down, but I couldn't find any solid evidance either way, so left it on the list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.29.4.43 (talk) 22:44, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Red links[edit]

I think it would be preferable to un-red-link the breweries in the list that don't have their own articles. Red links are appropriate for topics that are probably notable and that have a good chance of ending up with their own articles. But it's hard to say which of these breweries are notable, and it seems likely at this point that most of them will never get their own articles. There's been some back and forth editing about this very recently, so I thought I'd start a talk page discussion. Mudwater (Talk) 23:27, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Skyerise: In this edit summary, you said, "you need to be *selective* about removing redlinks, only if you can show that the specific brewery is not notable enough for an article". I believe the opposite is true. As it says at WP:REDLINK, "Creating a red link also carries the responsibility to first ascertain that the red link is a valid title of a page, and that its foreseeable new subject matter will meet the notability guidelines for topics covering..." In other words, it's okay to red link the breweries if we're pretty sure that they're notable enough to get their own article, otherwise they should be un-linked. (Also pinging Prof. Mc as he has recently made relevant edits.) Mudwater (Talk) 21:33, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In the second paragraph, WP:REDLINK also says "Do not remove red links unless you are certain that Wikipedia should not have an article on the subject, or if the red link could be replaced with a link to an article section where the subject is covered as part of a broader topic." So, once the links are in, WP:REDLINK specifically says that you have to be selective when removing them. I did not add the redlinks, they were there when I watch listed the article. The fact that maybe they should not all have been added in the first place does not override the fact that the breweries that are notable should be redlinked. Lack of research earlier by another editor does not relieve one of one's duty to do the research when fixing it. Skyerise (talk) 22:08, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So, first, I un-redlinked this as a matter of course when I added the ref to one of the breweries. I forgot we had discussed this already with regard to this page. My apologies--I wasn't trying to stir things up or try to sneak one in. Second, I agree with Mudwater on this one. Elsewhere in wiki [and I cannot dredge it up] it cautions against having long lists of redlinks. Aesthetically it's ugly, and the endless redlinks don't contribute to the article.
