Talk:List of conservative parties in Canada

For clarity, I believe that this page should be titled "Canadian right-wing political parties." My reasons are:

  1. "Conservative" is associated with the federal party of the same name. Confusing!
  2. "Right-wing" is more widely defined. Some will say you cannot be conservative AND socially liberal, for example.
I'd like to go ahead with the change, but I'll wait to see if there are any suggestions!--Colle 02:10, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to disagree, but I think that this is the more likely name for people to look for when they are looking for the "conservative movement". Moreover, the old PC Party, especially when being described by its Red Tory members, did not feel that right wing was a good description for their party. - Jord 03:07, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article is confusing because it combines a list of provincial parties that were once connected to the former Progressive Conservative Party of Canada with some provincial and federal parties that have a right wing agenda. It excludes the right-wing Liberal Parties of Quebec and BC, which are no longer connected to the Liberal Party of Canada, but includes the Union Nationale, the Saskatchewan Party and the Social Credit Party of BC, all of which combined former provincial Liberals and Conservatives.

Maybe a better name would be "Tory Parties in Canada". --The Four Deuces 18:07, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List?

[edit]

This page was just marked for updating, probably because the info on the current federal cpc stops at 2006. It seems to me that this page is currently more of an article than a list, and there is much overlap/redundancy with the "predecessors" section in the article on the [Conservative Party of Canada]] that is rightly updated to include all the newer details absent from here, and with the specific pages of those parties/events. I wonder if this list page should actually be updated in its current fashion, or if the "The federal conservative movement" section should be reduced to a blurb here that could precede a list of historic parties followed by the current ones. I see the value in having an article on the history of the conservative movement in canada, but this one:Conservatism in Canada covers that pretty well, (and it also has a good party list in it). I think the party history in this list page is better left to the specific articles on the parties mentioned and this list should be more listy (Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lists). Thoughts? - Slapmaster3000 (talk) 06:40, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That is what I expected to see when I first clicked on this page. I would like to see a small blurb about conservatism in Canada and then a list of the parties. Karl 334 Talk--Contribs 13:58, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
