"New format" tables

[edit]

Stumbling across this page (and ignorant of almost all things football or Welsh) I was bemused by the weird tables with huge, empty right-hand columns. Investigation in the page history shows the tables were created with these edits from October 2021 by User:Geordiewomble, summarized as "New Format".

Since then, the columns have never been filled, and the column heading, "Change from 2020-21", seems not only currently out of date but destined to require constant maintenance and fastidious sourcing, or else be perpetually unhelpful. Further, the "Key" (coded as a table, sort of) above suggests the "Change" column was intended to display only colours, which goes against accessibility guidelines, and making it the widest (37%) of all the columns is just one more nail in the coffin for me.

I can change the width (for example, to 0%, heh) and remove the Key thing, but I thought I'd wait to give Geordiewomble or other editors a chance to argue for retention. If we delete that column, we could maybe also do something about the small font-size. But first, let's talk about content, and what the page should show. — JohnFromPinckney (talk / edits) 07:15, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, John.
Many thanks for the notification - the richt column is there to indicate changes of Division (Promotion, Relegation or Tranfer), and you have correctly pointed out that I neglected to amend the "Change From" year, that is entirely my fault. They have a larger size because the informatrion provided can be quite large (as in "Promoted from Western League Premier Division West"), so it could easily be reduced in size by way of removing the words Promoted, Relegated etc) - the only other reason the column is blank currently is because of Covid and not being in a position to fully update it. I hold my hand up to that, I have had rather major personal concerns that have interfered. Geordiewomble (talk) 14:26, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Geordie. Sorry to hear COVID-19 has impacted your life. I hope things are better for you now.
Even apart from your personal RL distractions, do you think it realistic (or even very useful) to have a column for divisional change from the previous year? It seems like a lot of maintenance required for what is (to me) little advantage. Its currency and sourcing would be a perpetual problem.
One approach to the question of column width (assuming we keep the column) would be to use a textual indicator along with the colour coding, e.g. "New" for new club, "Promoted" for, well, promoted, etc. That would alleviate the colour-only accessibility problem, and also keep the necessary width down a bit. Or if we used abbreviations ("NC", "Prom.", "Trans.", "Dem.", "Rel") we could include them in the "Key" table, left of the descriptions/colours. — JohnFromPinckney (talk / edits) 03:35, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wrexham AFC

[edit]

Shouldn't this be on the list of Welsh clubs? 2407:7000:9CA3:5200:E85E:D273:DF74:E9C0 (talk) 04:57, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This list seems to only cut to football clubs that compete within the leagues and divisions of the Welsh football league system, so Wrexham, Cardiff City, Swansea City and Newport County, therefore are not included as they're competing in the English system, and instead are at List of football clubs in England. However, this approach is a bit odd, needing at least a possible title change. DankJae 00:35, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
