Wfructose changed my example of Sondheim's "I'm Still Here" to "Not Getting Married Today" because the latter is a patter song. However, the subject here is not patter songs but list songs and "I'm Still Here" is much more clearly a list (of events occurring during an actress's career) than "Not Getting Married Today" is, so I'm changing it back. However, I'd be happy to throw this open to discussion. Note that there is considerable overlap between patter songs and list songs, which confuses the issue. Clampton - you're absolutely right. "Married today" is patter, not list. I stand corrected. The "considerable overlap" you mention makes me wonder, though, if "list songs" oughtn't be inserted into "Patter songs" somewhere. The trouble is, that while "I'm still here" certainly lists events, it is far from the more obvious 'pure list' in, say, Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire". What of Tom Lehrer's "The Elements" - both a very obvious list, and tongue-twisting patter. Merge the two articles? Wfructose 21:21, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure that Sondheim has referred to "I'm Still Here" as a list song, but I'll look for a reference on that. "The Elements" would be a fine addition to the article. As for merging the articles on list songs and patter songs, I'm reluctant. There's considerable overlap, but they aren't exactly the same thing. Certainly the two articles should have links to one another, though. (I'll change the reference to patter songs in this article to a link if nobody's done so already.) Verifiability

[edit]

I want to apologize to JzG for moving so many titles into the examples list without citations (there will be more), but my feeling was that this article was at something of a standstill and the only way to get it moving again was to add examples. I'll look for citations, because Wikipedia needs verifiability, but my gut feeling is that I'd need an expert citation to convince me that "We Didn't Start the Fire" isn't a list song. Eclipse?

[edit]

I'm curious why "Eclipse" by Pink Floyd is not considered a list song. According to the definition contained in the article it certainly should be, and I've seen it referred to as such in many places as well as by Waters himself. Please explain. Andy 16:27, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More

[edit]

This page is not an article, but a list of list songs. And no LOLS would be complete without

Tchaik

[edit]

The Ira/Weill number for Danny Kaye is listed twice, once as Tschaikowsky and once as Tchaikovsky. I believe Ira Gershwin spelled the name the first way, but at all events consistency would be desirable. 22:15, 8 March 2011 (UTC) (Sorry - forgot my tiddlies Tim riley (talk) 22:16, 8 March 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Shake your head?

[edit]

Does "Shake Your Head" by Was Not Was belong in this article? What about "Don't Touch My Bikini" by Halo Benders? - Joshua Clement Broyles—Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.29.176.65 (talk) 23:17, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there a list?

[edit]

Is it some sort of meta-joke that the article about list songs also has a list of list songs? Most articles on wikipedia don't have a sudden long list attached to the end of it. It also makes the table of contents for the article become awful. 2405:6580:DBC0:1600:7127:46B8:C9FC:303A (talk) 16:54, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
