Who was this written by? While it can't be completely try, it is rather NPOV and asserts facts that are not in evidence and might reinforce stereotypes about public schools. Can some clean up some of the language? I have done with the 'choice of subjects' section.

I wrote the basis of this article, although it's been derailed somewhat since then. I'm happy to do some more work on it, and I'd appreciate a partner in crime! Tom s252 (talk) 11:57, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, it was probably written by the school's PR department (it exists). I noticed the large change in this page when they got their new website :P 86.2.100.108 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 19:16, 5 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Would it be beneficial to include information on Pupils average attainment in GCSE's and A Levels? Not in a competitive manner, but one that demonstates the quality of teaching at the school. Also, a number students at the school compete at a national level in Mathematics, Sports etc? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Harrybee89 (talkcontribs) 20:39, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how listing the schools grades can be seen as anything other than competitive. After all, this is an encyclopedia page, not a brochure. The teaching may be exceptional, but i think good grades at a Private School with an entrance exam shows that the remarkable tactic of filtering out anyone likely to struggle will ensure a school gets good grades! Considering rival schools such as Woodbrook take in Shelthorpe as a catchment area, it is perhaps then unfair to use Wikipedia to allow parents to compare grades on such a basic level without looking at the bigger picture. To use the entire article to say "this school does this and this school is good at that" is a bit shameful, so leave the Grades to your website. After all, it is these league tables being splattered around everywhere that is ruining education in this Country. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.26.194.27 (talk) 17:34, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for non-login. There is much that could be said about the schools' history (that could be selectively err, extracted at a high level, from the two extensive books written about it) which might aleviate from the 'prospectus' comments. I also recommend contacting the school's resident archivist, Mr Wilson. As to reinforcing public school image, it IS a public school and therefore WILL tend to have elements of 'public school stereotype' about it. I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing. If you start editing the page to 'de-privatise' its image, it is equally as misleading as if one only accepts those stereotypes. It might also be useful to expand a section on the school's role in the Community (if it still has one) as I remember it being a large part of the school's 'character'. As a drive-by editor, might I suggest that deleting the Extracurricular activities section could largely solve the POV problem? It isn't referenced to independent sources, is largely in praise of the school, and doesn't say much that wouldn't be true of many similar schools, so doesn't really warrant inclusion in an encyclopaedia.
