Disputed
[edit]There is a dispute over whether the article should refer to Lower Darwen as being in Darwen. The evidence for it is claimed to be: "maps, council, county council, Royal Mail districts, google maps, history of darwen/blackburn..."[1].
"Maps, council, county council" and "history of darwen/blackburn" are vague and cannot be used as sources; more specific citations are needed.
Sources: Royal Mail and Google maps both use the postal addresses – somewhere that is part of a postal town is not always part of a town, as there are many exceptions and boundaries to not coincide with settlements or administrative areas. The county council has a page at http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/environment/documents/historictowns/DarwenComplete_LowRes.pdf about Darwen, and according to that the town includes part of the former Lower Darwen township. More information about this at http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=53116 – it states that Lower Darwen was divided; part was incorporated into Darwen, but a larger area became part of Blackburn. There are boundary maps at http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk which show the former township boundaries, although the site is currently not working.
http://www.blackburn.gov.uk/upload/pdf/Darwen_Electoral_Wards.pdf – Darwen Town Council does not include the wards in which Lower Darwen is located, although the former township included Earcroft. (Is this still considered a part of Lower Darwen?) One of the two wards (Fernhurst, which also includes part of Blackburn) is in the Rossendale and Darwen constituency, although the other (Higher Croft) is in the Blackburn constituency (this can be verified at http://neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk). snigbrook (talk) 21:46, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
