"Solomon Process"
[edit]Solomon, P.M. 1965, personal communication as cited by Field, G.B., Somerville, W.B. and Dressler, K, in "Hydrogen Molecules in Astronomy", Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics Volume 4, 1966 207-244 https://www.annualreviews.org/content/journals/10.1146/annurev.aa.04.090166.001231
"Two-step photodissociation (the Solomon process):H2 + γ → H^*_2 → 2H (Stecher & Williams 1967).The first step involves excitation to either theB^1Σ^+_u or C^1Π_u excited electronic states, withthreshold energies of 11.15eV and 12.26eV respectively. This is followed by decay to some vibrational level of the groundelectronic state. A fraction of these decays will be to thevibrational continuum of the ground state, resulting in dissociation.A number of rotational and vibrational states ofB^1Σ^+_u and C^1Π_u are available from the ground state by absorption below 13.6 eV; the associated spectral lines belongto the Lyman and Werner band systems." https://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0005576 "On the photodissociation of H2 by the first stars" 50.0.193.12 (talk) 04:36, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
