MF Global Inc/MF Global Holdings didn't file for bankruptcy - smoke and mirrors?
According to http://news.businessweek.com/article.asp?documentKey=1377-aqHnI6CrAMp0-56PIBAQMOFCTPG4C2TQ1E13916 "the company's regulated U.S. broker-dealer unit, MF Global Inc., didn't file for bankruptcy." Ottawahitech (talk) 15:22, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- "However, the MF Global trustee said the liquidation and terminations don't apply to the parent company, MF Global Holdings, which listed 2,847 employees as of September."

In the news
MF Global customers to get long-sought $520 million http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/18/us-mfglobal-idUSTRE7AG1U420111118 Ottawahitech (talk) 00:53, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Or Are The Repos Really The Story Here?
I don't know if you have read this article http://www.huffingtonpost.com/janet-tavakoli/mf-global-revelations-kee_b_1107097.html but it's worth it. This is the behavior that people in the financial community are worried about because there is a thought that MF Global reveals the vulnerability of now-common repo funding - also the use of repos to create unstable off-balance-sheet "structured" balance sheets that are potentially vulnerable to liquidity crises. There is some ineresting stuff on alphaville, etc. Dlawbailey (talk) 23:46, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Created Missing Funds Subsection
Financial news outlets and writers have done a significant amount of reporting on the misuse of customer funds in the days prior to MF Global's bankruptcy, and the topic has been a subject of investigation for Congressional committees, the US Commodities Futures Trading Commission and the Justice Department. There are plenty of resources to expand this section if others are interested. I intend to do some work in that direction when I have more time.173.23.191.206 (talk) 10:16, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
I did more work on this section. It may be helpful to add information on any investigations that are or may be proceeding. Certainly that information is available in news reports. I may add such a paragraph to this section but would be pleased to see it worked on further. 173.23.191.206 (talk) 05:46, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- Great work. This is the most notable aspect of this whole company at this point. Are you keeping this updated? The Sound and the Fury (talk) 13:23, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
I ended up writing the "Disappearance of Customer Funds, etc." subsection when I had some spare time. I am happy to see that much of that work was worthy of being retained in this impressive reworking of the article. As most of my original citations show, the last work I did was in April. Unfortunately, regulators and prosecutors have so far declined to write the rest of the story - I wasn't aware of significant updates I could make. 173.23.191.206 (talk) 06:31, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
