Merge with Mac OS X v10.0?
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
With 4 votes for and 8 votes against a merge after nearly 4 months, we have no consensus to merge. -- simxp (talk) 14:59, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- Merge Does this really need it's own page? If we merge it with Mac OS X v10.0, half the article would fit neatly into a "Development" section, and the other half is duplicated in that page already. -- Simxp
- Agree I think it should go into Mac OS X 10.0 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.153.67.248 (talk • contribs) 10:48, 28 May 2007.
- Agree I think it makes sense to merge this with the Mac OS X page—I went to that page looking for info on the beta and was surprised when I had to seek a different page. After all, the beta was the earliest release of OS X.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.202.135.91 (talk • contribs) 02:45, 25 June 2007
- Anonymous people are free to discuss changes, but don't count for votes, if that is what this is. Althepal 01:35, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree Its a different release and OS as far I'm concerned. Keep this page DanB91 20:43, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree It's very different, I agree with DanB91, it's almost like calling Windows 95 'Cairo' :) Miguelandres 04:27, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Agree There is no separate article for Windows Vista Beta (Longhorn) and regular Windows Vista. This is not a separate OS, just a pre-release, and doesn't need a whole article. Althepal 01:33, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree the Public Beta is different from the typical software beta release because of its cost of entry. also, being substantially different from the 10.0 release and all of the subsequent OS X releases warrants its own article. Ehren 23:10, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree The beta was a different release and marked the first change to OS X. This deserves its own article. --68.0.125.230 02:30, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree Keep this Page. The beta and 10.0 are substantially different. --68.0.125.230 02:36, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree Two different versions. Do not merge.--DreamsAreMadeOf 02:37, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree They are so different, it's like merging David Beckham with Michael Vaughan. --MacMad (talk · contribs) 19:05, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree There should also be a page documenting the Developer Preview releases, before the stuff on the net about them is lost to the mists of time. GoldenTorc 05:49, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- apple logo is featured in the middle of screenshot? is this a bug?... or did apple actually release the beta with the logo in the center of the menubar? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.10.168.76 (talk) 06:55, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Apple did release the beta with the apple logo in the centre, otherwise the person that uploaded it wouldn't of. --MacMad (talk · contribs) 18:50, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Macosxpb.png
[edit]Image:Macosxpb.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I don't really know what I am doing but I think this should be merged into Mac OS X since it relates a lot to early versions of Mac OS X. This article also only has 2 references for the entire page. IS this a good idea? Stealth (talk) 10:37, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think that Mac OS X Public Beta should be merged with the Mac OS X article. Mac OS X Public Beta is just another version of Mac OS X. Signed, Unknown (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Punkermunker (talk • contribs) 13:59, June 22, 2008
- Each boxed release of Mac OS X has a separate article. So unless you are suggesting that we merge Mac OS X v10.0, Mac OS X v10.1, Mac OS X v10.2, etc... AlistairMcMillan (talk)
- Sorry also meant to say, if you think the article is lacking in references then the tag you are looking for is "refimprove" not "merge". AlistairMcMillan (talk) 22:18, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you're looking for references, the original Ars Technica review of the public beta (http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2000/10/macos-x-beta.ars )might be a good source. Thavron (talk) 03:02, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't this page renamed to "OS X 10.0 Public Beta"?
[edit]Currently it can be found in Google by a [os x beta] query which most people mean to find Yosemite 10.10 Beta, and renaming this page could reduce the confusion they experience when getting to this page. --DenisYurkin (talk) 13:13, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Anti-Carbon bias?
[edit]The poor state of the Carbon API contrasted with the relative maturity of Cocoa gave rise to an anti-Carbon bias among OS X users That's a qualitative and subjective assessment. Not that it matters, but it's also ignorant and wrong.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a01:cb18:2ba:e300:4451:c312:eea9:360 (talk) 5:41, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
Internal demo by Jobs at Macworld 2000
[edit]Shouldn't a mention be made of the demo Jobs showed at Macworld 2000? It was (I believe) an internal demo predecessor to 10.0. E.g. the dock was different. http://cdn.cultofmac.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/os_x_aqua.jpg Gold333 (talk) 00:10, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
