Segregation
[edit]I think the tone of the paragraph re racial segregation could be improved. Surely the creators of the program didn't intend to advocate support of segregation. The description makes it sound definitive. The critic cited has the full right to go out on that limb, but the graf as written makes it sound less like conjecture and more like established history.

- Other perspectives are welcome. The source document indicates that animators in the early 1960s were largely reflecting the cultural values of their era. It is established that Magilla is always purchased by white customers and that he is always returned to the store by those white customers at the end of the episode. It is the author's conjecture that this reinforces values of that era rejecting racial integration. The current wording doesn't say that the creators advocated segregation. I have to agree that the paragraph could be improved. The general phenomenon of animators (inevitably) reflecting cultural values does not necessarily make any particular sociological reading of how a specific program's content encoded (and "perpetuated") a particular message a fact, rather than an interpretation. At present, the passage reads to me as if it's being presented as a fact. I'm not saying it's an interpretation with no merit, just that it is an interpretation.Jcejhay (talk) 18:16, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
I also think the racial segregation part could be improved or even eliminated. There is only one source that says the cartoon was racist. That author is entitled to his opinion, but no one else commenting on cartoons shares it. Almost all characters in cartoons in the 60's are white. Just because they are buying and returning an animal from a pet store (what else would people do in a pet store ?) does not make the cartoon racist.

Name Of Pet Shop Owner
[edit]In most episodes, the per shop owner is addressed as Mr. Peebles. Where was it revealed that his first name is Melvin? 2605:E000:2E42:A3F0:E5E7:86B1:A117:1CC8 (talk) 23:28, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
Can we get some information about who wrote the music to the theme song? It seems to me, that it's the same tune (or nearly so) as for "Bewitched", but I can't find any information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.124.116.101 (talk) 06:08, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
Magilla's species and subspecies?
[edit]The article claims that Magilla Gorilla is a western lowland gorilla. I think he's pretty obviously some sort of gorilla, but is there any evidence to show he's not only a certain species but a certain subspecies of Gorilla, either from the show or from comments from the creators? It certainly can't be deduced from the character design.--67.82.1.254 (talk) 02:31, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
The cartoon is a concern to me.
