Additional Citations, Verification, Categories, etc.

[edit]

Hi @Ahunt I received a notification that the Page I created Marchica was reviewed by @One15969. I have just a couple of questions:

1) At the top of the page, there is a box that says that the article requires additional citations. I've added 2 additional links/citations to the article. Most of the press is in Spanish, and my español isn't great, but I hope they work for now. Please let me know if there are more citations needed, or any advice on how I might go about getting additional citations. I realize that external websites/articles are what is needed, however, since wikipedia itself is a "published" article, it's kind of like a "what came first, the chicken or the egg" thing, ya know? Also, there was an album review in the March 2022 issue of Ruta 66 magazine https://www.ruta66.es/, but it was only published in the physical copy (I know, they still do those here in Spain). Unfortunately there's not a digital version of it, because it would be a great citation. Happy to send a picture of it, but I doubt those are accepted as citations.

2) Also, citations 2, 4, and 6 are all copied directly from the web address, but have "red lettering" at the end of the (Which I thin means they're not valid or accepted?). Either way, these were all copied and pasted, so I don't see how It could be the wrong web address for each of those links. Any guidance on if these are valid, or if not, how to make them valid, would be very appreciated.

3) At the bottom of the page, it says that this article has not been added to any content categories. However, I did add it to content categories. Any guidance on what that means, or if/how I did anything wrong, is very appreciate.

As always, many thanks for your help :)

Hi Also, @Ahunt There is an interview with the band that is going to be published in the above mentioned magazine, for its November 2022 issue, but it's unclear as to whether it will be online as well as in print - in print for sure. Like I said, it's a bit of a conundrum, as unless band like this are selling out the Stadium where Real Madrid plays, much of the music scene is still very much dependent on printed ad, tickets, and especially press, even if they are popular. Either way, I still think that shouldn't matter for the noteworthiness of a wikipedia article, but I'll of course defer to your guys' expertise. Many thanks again. Thanks for your note here. Let me see if I can help out and explain as I go:
1. Citations needed: basically, as per WP:V, each claim or statement needs to have a cited ref, so the banner is correct, as some are not currently cited. I have added "citation needed" tags to show which claims need to have refs added.
2. References in other languages than English are fine.
3. Paper references are fine as long as they are publicly accessible somewhere in the world, like a library, see Wikipedia:Citing sources. We even have a template for that! Template:Cite journal including "To cite an article written in a foreign language".
4. The article has lots of categories now, so I removed the template saying that it lacked categories.
5. The red warnings in the references are just because they have formatting issues, like missing parameters, such as titles, etc. I have fixed those.
Check the page edit history to see each change I made and how I fixed things. Hope that all helps! - Ahunt (talk) 13:53, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Ahunt Again, thanks so much for all the useful information - really is helpful, and I'm enjoying the learning process of Wikipedia. I've updated all of the areas where citations were needed. I'm pretty certain everything was covered, where the "citations needed" tags were placed. Additionally, the print magazine template is super helpful. It's not really needed right now, but it's good to know that it's there if/when I need it. Also, the reference to mastering technician (Cam Oral) in the "Recording and Production" section is cited in two different places. Might be a little overkill, but this person not only has a wikipedia page, they are also listed in the credits/notes for the record mentioned in the article, which is registered on Discogs.com. The discogs link wasn't flagged when I entered it, as discogs is a pretty public source for information such as this, so I think it's okay. That said, please let me know if it isn't. Lastly, please let me know if any other citations are needed, in order to remove the "This article needs citations" box at the top of the page. Happy to do some more digging and or modify anything if needed. Again, all this help is appreciated way more than you know. All the best, Randy. Bigwhakoo (talk) 07:38, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am glad that was all of assistance. Everything seems to be now covered by refs, so I removed the banner. Looking at discogs.com it seems like it meets WP:RS, so no issue there using it as a ref on Wikipedia. You seem to be making good progress learning the ropes here; let me know if you have more questions or need more help on anything! - Ahunt (talk) 11:42, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Right on, @Ahunt. I'm only as good as those who I've learned from, so thanks again! Bigwhakoo (talk) 11:43, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! "Ping" me anytime you need a hand! - Ahunt (talk) 11:53, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
