Fair use rationale for Image:MariaSutherland.jpg
[edit]Image:MariaSutherland.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Condensing
[edit]I thought I'd explain my condensing of the article here, seeing as the edit summary box is too restrictive to go into detail. If you feel that there's anything specifically that shouldn't have been removed, then by all means please re-include it :) The problem I found in trying to read the article is that there was a lot of repeated information, and an issue with following the chronology of events. For example, the following text under Creation:
- Maria first appeared working as a kennel maid at her parents' kennels business. Her brother, Kirk Sutherland, was quickly introduced and she had a long-running relationship with Tyrone. They got engaged twice but never married. During their first relationship, Fiz Brown came between them which lead Maria to dump Tyrone and reinvent her image to a glamorous look and she started sleeping around. Maria had a brief romance with Nick Tilsley, who was visiting from Canada, and joined him there, but returned after leaving Nick. He followed her to the UK, but their attempts to revive their relationship were obstructed by Nick's ex-wife, Leanne, and his mother, Gail Platt. Maria then had several other relationships, including an affair with Charlie Stubbs. Her parents - Eric and Dotty - appeared briefly in 2000, 2005 and 2008, and retired abroad to run a donkey sanctuary but were unable to attend Maria's wedding to Liam Connor in February 2008.
Aside from the first couple of sentences, this doesn't actually have anything to do with character creation, but is more an overview of select storylines from her total time on the show. Furthermore, most of the relationship sections under 'Development' were just in-universe plot detail. For instance, the section Charlie Stubbs:
- In 2006, Maria had an affair with bad-boy builder Charlie Stubbs, who was with Tracy Barlow at the time. The fling developed after Charlie took advantage of his role as her landlord. He staged a break-in and put a CCTV camera outside the flat so he could watch her. When David Platt found out about their affair, he began a hate campaign against Charlie because of his own intense crush on Maria. Charlie tried to scare David by half-drowning him in the bath, attempting to avoid Tracy finding out about him and Maria. However, Maria caught Charlie doing this and confessed to Tracy as she saw Charlie's true colours, leading to a fight on the cobbles. Tracy pretended to forgive Charlie, but murdered him in revenge for cheating in January 2007. Maria saw Charlie die in hospital and soon saw through Tracy's self-defence claims, testifying against her at the murder trial along with Charlie's friend, Jason Grimshaw.
The 'Development' section should be concerned with real-world development of the character. All the above tells us is in-universe details of a particular storyline, with no real-world commentary. I did leave in the real-world discussion present in the overall 'Relationships' section, but removed a couple of quotes from Smith which had no reference attributing them to any source. If a source can be provided, then of course it would be beneficial to re-include those. This is the only real-world information I removed from the article, the rest of the condensing was purely of plot details.
With regards to chronology - it seemed as though plot details had been lifted straight out of 'Storylines' to fill out the 'Relationships' section, which meant I had to keep going back from one section to the other to try and get a sense of the proper chronology of things. As such, I re-inserted the in-universe storyline recapping from 'Relationships' into 'Storylines' before beginning condensing, so that the section ran comprehensively & in order. Prior to my edit, the total plot summary in the article amounted to around 2,5000 words, which is obviously problematic when the guidelines for fiction, if I recall correctly, advise no more than 1,000-1,500 words. I also re-wrote the storylines section in the present tense, per guidelines. Please do discuss any problems with the steps I took here rather than blanket reverting the whole thing, because I am very much open to discussion, and the article as it read before did contravene guidelines in these areas. - I get why the edits were made. But hasn't some personality and identity info gone down the pan? I thought that last accessed URL's were accessed citing information... why should the info be removed later when the link is no longer available.Raintheone (talk) 22:52, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, you're right on that one. I didn't remove the bits with dead links until after posting the above, hence why I didn't mention it, but glancing at WP:Linkrot it seems that deadlinks don't negate WP:V anyway, which I didn't know, so I'll self-revert that change now. - ETA: Done. Though looking at the diffs it seems I only took two sentences out anyway. Oh well, it's restored either way. Frickative 23:19, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry to take you're time for a little peice. :P Atleast it's back now. Raintheone (talk) 01:08, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
