Choosing number of laps?

From the "Gameplay" section: "The number of laps changed from 3 to a "recommended" amount of laps, depending on the size of the course, and the player could choose how many laps they would do in Vs. mode."

It's actually in the options section in the game, but it only affects versus mode. You can choose a number which will be used for all races or "recommended" which is 3 for most races, 7 in Baby Park, and I think 2 laps in one of the races. Outside versus mode, recommended is always used. - MTC 07:42, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Smiley faces?

My friend has the game and in the Grand Prix records, next to the the time for some circuits, it shows smiley faces. Does anyone know what this means? Some guy 21:52, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Trivia Section

About the trivia section, some of the data is interesting, but most is simply too esoteric for a general peruser of the site. Except for a hardcore gamer, many people do not care about the appearance of Cheep Cheep in the final end scene. I would suggest deleting the trivia section entirely, perhaps moving some of the data into the Characters section. --Pseudolus42 15:15, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

There are several (supposedly unintentional) places in the game where you can cut corners. Near the final stretch in DK's level, you are able to jump off the gap if you can manage to powerslide tightly around the fence "barricading" the way. In Waluigi's Stadium, you can ramp over the warp pipes with the fake plants in them, and In Rainbow Road, on the twisty path before the cannon launch, you can hop the ledges by running straight off the track and onto the next curve (if done correctly, the player should seem to come up through the track). Tracks section

I think it's a good idea to add descriptions of the tracks, but they could be a bit more encyclopedic, and things like "This is Mushroom Bridge turned evil" are just not neutral point-of-view. As I'm not good at writing these types of thing, I won't try to fix it myself, I'll just stick a NPOV template there. - MTC 11:07, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

It still looks to me as though Wario Colosseum, Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road are unencyclopedia. Things like "Traumatic? Sure, but you're almost to the gold!" aren't needed on Wikipedia at all. Talking about how hard tracks are is also unecyclopedic and not needed on Wikipedia. Also to be noted is that the section is informal - not the best thing ever on Wikipedia. Make it more formal. Character listing

Hope you all don't mind; I changed the order of the characters into the order in which they appear on the character select screen. Feel free to revert if you wish. Also, Baby Mario has his own Wiki page now, so I changed Baby Mario into just Baby Mario. And I changed Baby Luigi into Baby Luigi. It should be easy to see why. ONLINE PLAY

I noticed that the article doesn't mention that this was one of the few games for Gamecube to have online play. Though I've never played it online myself, I have read in a magazine(I believe it was GMR) that a group of fans actually made a site all by themselves and without any development support, where you could link the Gamecube to and play online since Nintendo hadn't made a way to play online themselves. If this is already common knowledge amongst you other fans then ok, I was just wondering why it wasn't in the article. Waluigi Racer

ADDENDUM by SHAFFNER: I believe it is more correct to state that only certain karts can be driven by certain drivers. For instance, the light-weight baby carts must be driven by smaller drivers such as the babies and can not be driven by Bowser or Donkey Kong. This took me a while to figure out too.

Brushing up

I think there's quite a few sections lacking from this page.

1. Controls - If this game were Need for Speed or Halo, I could understand. But, as Mario is exclusively Nintendo, why not include the Gamecube controls?

2. Item Summary - You know, some brief sentences describing what each item does.

3. Character, Car and Track Summaries - Just a few lists showing the name of each character, track, ect. and a summary.

And finally, I think the gameplay needs more organized section such as "Battle Mode", "Grand Prix" and the like. Do you guys think these sections would be helpful?

A section on controls would be game guide/manual info, and isn't allowed on Wikipedia. Similarily, lists of items, characters and tracks would be listcruft. There is already an article for characters, and the tracks are there in a table. Separate sections for Grand Prix and Battle Mode would be good though. Geoff B 16:24, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Not Really 7th best selling GC game?

This image is not a screenshot of the gameplay of the final release, only the pre-release version. This image is not from the final version or seen in it. Please include a screenshot of the full version's gameplay, not one from a pre-release version. The full release is the version that was available to consumers, not the pre-release version.
