Nicknames and birthdate

[edit]

@Golden eagle50: In this rollback, I reverted an unsourced birthdate and later added a source emphasizing the correct one already on the article. Also, Egypt's godfather of trap had been given WP:UNDUE weight by putting it in the lede and in bold, instead of its mention both in the 2nd sentence as well as the infobox. This title was only mentioned once in the VICE media documentary, and otherwise is self-declared and WP:PUFFERY. Please note that Wikipedia is WP:NOTASOAPBOX. OTOH, Dama is well-sourced, at least for the period before it was outweighed by Pablo, and doesn't imply a subjective tone, hence the revert. Assem Khidhr (talk) 19:11, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrights

[edit]

For editors who seem to be working hard on developing this article (especially, Ziad Rashad, Shadyamrxo, and Golden eagle50), there seems to be some misunderstanding regarding WP:COPYRIGHTS limitations on both Wikipedia and its sister project, Wikimedia Commons. Generally speaking, most of the media that would be suitable are released under a Creative Commons license. Although "Own work" is allowed to be uploaded, this is meant to be purely original work (e.g. media a user have captured or illustrated themselves). Media that are grabbed from a copyrights-protected website cannot be described as "own work", including those brought over from Google images, which are mostly non-free. Please read the respective policy before contributing. Thanks! Assem Khidhr (talk) 20:39, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, Assem Khidhr. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I've only attached images that I've found on wikimedia commons and some of them (like the cover art photo) was mentioned as "own work" so I used it. Though, keep in mind that none of these files were actually originally uploaded by me. Ziad Rashad (talk) 21:01, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Ziad Rashad: It's Ok, Ziad, I guessed so. I did some digging on Pablo's photos on Commons, and turned out all were already nominated for deletion due to copyvio. However, as a general rule-of-thumb, you should take such declared licenses with a grain of salt. For example, it's highly unlikely that Pablo himself, let alone his record label, would release his official cover under a free license, thereby affecting their profit. Also, given the general socioeconomic situation here in Egypt, it's also unlikely that a profssional, or even a reasonably amateur, photographer, who also happens to be contributing on enWP, would be able to shoot such high-quality images of Pablo, let alone deciding to volunteer them instead of, say, selling them to the media. In fact, this isn't confined to Egyptian or even Arab celebreties. Such copyrights limitation is why you sometimes see some fairly high-profile celebreties only represented with low-grade media (e.g. photos of Selena Gomez and Alec Benjamin are snapshots from Youtube videos released under a CC license). Thanks for the good work, though. And good to see a compatriot around here! Assem Khidhr (talk) 21:25, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
