Hi Matt! Was with you when Gary S tried to cut my throat with a utility knife. I have been a field training officer at BPD for 10 years. We work in a unique environment. Our officers handle more type 1 and 2 crimes on the uniform crime report than any other department in MN, maybe the U.S. The stats are available via public data requests. We used to give life saving awards to officers who responded to overdose calls and saved a life via narcan. We don’t anymore because they are now common place. We used to deplore 2-3 nasal narcan doses per OD call. Bemidji Ambulance Service tought us that nasal narcan doesn’t work if it doesn’t hit the patient’s airway because they aren’t breathing. We now deliver one dose and start rescue breathing via a bag valve mask to make the Narcan hit the airway. Surprisingly, the patient that needed chest compressions and rescue breaths sits up and has no idea that I have been pumping his/her heart or breathing for him/her for the past 5-10 minutes. I say, “Welcome back!….You were dead!…. I have been breathing for you and pumping your blood for the past 5-10 minutes.” I am going to write a paper prior to the 2024 election, with fentanyl overdose stats from Bemidji, including deaths. 68.235.82.98 (talk) 12:31, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
