I am one of the co-authors of the Mendez 2013 paper in the AJHG -- Bonnie Schrack. I would like to let the well-intentioned people know, who have written here that the Mbo people were the source of the A00 samples analyzed for our study, that what they have written is based on an unfortunate confusion. These samples were actually taken from "Nkongho-Mbo" people, who are in fact a separate group, speaking the Nkongho language, which according to the Wikipedia article about it, "is not demonstrably related to the Mbo language." The Nkongho-Mbo live in the highlands just to the Northwest of the main Mbo group. They are directly south of Fontem, where A00 lineages have also been found among the Bangwa people. I don't know how to provide a source that can be cited in Wikipedia, but the information presented on this page is misleading. Based on current evidence, people who speak the Mbo language are not known to have A00 among them. Perhaps future sampling will provide more data. I would strongly suggest that the genetics section be removed or modified. You could say "the related Nkongho people" are the source of the samples, noting that they are sometimes called "Upper Mbo" but speak a distinct language. There is currently no page on Wikipedia for the Nkongho people, only this one for their language.Nkongho language Iris-J2 (talk) 14:55, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to modify what I said above, which was a little overstated. The Nkongho-Mbo are probably closely related to the other Mbo, but they have had more contact with the Bangwa. The A00 found among them is distinct from that of the Bangwa, but it's less common among them than A00 is among the Bangwa, as found by our study currently underway. A00 might be found among the lower Mbo even more infrequently. We will soon learn whether it's also found among the Bamileke. Iris-J2 (talk) 04:32, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
