chess story
[edit]Meadville is home of a chess center, covered in 60 Minutes story "Chess Country" aired March 26, 2017, involving chess coach Jeff Bulington. Chess center shows first at about 9 minutes into 14-minute video available at http://www.cbsnews.com/news/chess-program-creates-state-championship-team-in-rural-mississippi/.
The 14 minute video includes various places:
- Bude, Mississippi's old train station, with "Bude" on it, as a place where the trains don't stop any more, at about 1 minute.
- Franklin Upper Elementary School, at about 1:30. "Dr. B" began there in 2015, mentioned at about 2 minutes.
- Bulington + 60 minutes interviewer Sharyn Alfonsi walk down sidewalk by 47 Main St. East, Meadville, Mississippi ("Southwest Mississippi Mental Health Complex" sign appears in video around 3 minute mark; street address found at [1]). At about 3:30 Dr. B's having taught chess for 25 years. Bobby Poole(?) at 5:00.
- Franklin County High School football game at about 8:00.
- First and Main Cafe, which is in Bude, at 8:20, "one of few places in the county that serves a hot meal"
- The chess center introduced at about 9 minutes; at 9:33 or so the front window with "Franklin Chess Center" appears and then interior.
- Nashville, 9 hours away, in week before Christmas, for the national scholastic chess tournament at Opryland.
