History is totally incorrect. The "Midwout" mentioned was established in 1652 became the town of Flatbush. Henceforth, subsequent developments which greatly predate Midwood proper (and other establishments carrying solely the Midwood name i.e. Midwood HS)

as it is known today carry names such as Midwood Park, Midwood Terrace and South and West Midwood. These communites were created in Victorian Flatbush at the end of the 19th century.Kyle.chris (talk) 19:14, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Harnik's Books

[edit]

It closed over a year ago?

I didn't even realize that it had disappeared.

Are there any online sources exploring why it went out of business?

FiOS in Midwood

[edit]

There is no FiOS in Midwood. I live 2 blocks off Kings Highway and quarter mile radius off Verizon CO in Midwood. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.151.45.162 (talk) 18:17, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

conservative bias and total lack of reason in 'religious groups'

[edit]

Please, even if one is not religious, it does not take much perception to notice that out of hundreds of synagogues in the midwood area, only two or three are conservative. These conservative temples have extremely low attendance rates, with the ocean parkway Jewish center having only 20 members. To mention them and ignore places like Landau's shul, The Agudah of Avenue L, and the Young Israel of Midwood, which sport thousands of daily congregants at all three prayers(morning, mid-day, and night) is just absurd. If anythigm, it should be the other way around - the conservative synagogues(I doubt there are even any reform) make up a tiny, insignificant minority which is dwarfed by orthodox synagogues.

I forgot to add; many orthodox synagogues are in fact, ran out of people's houses, or in basements - they are not always visible, and typically do not have advertisements, with the exception of community centered synagogues with complete dining halls, and accommodations for communal gatherings. Also, to clarify, when I said that there are thousands of worshipers, I meant to include all of the other orthodox synagogues in the area, which total at well over five thousand, as all orthodox men attend daily prayer services. An official at Landau's shul has said recently at a fund-raising appeal that there are about 3,000 congregants on an average day.

Total Garbage

[edit]

Who wrote this thing. It is so inaccurate to make one laugh. Midwood is a Polygot? I suppose if you ignore the overwhelming dominance of Orthodox Jews in the community, you might assume so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.57.23.82 (talk) 13:07, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cultureshock

[edit]

The shows taped behind the brick walls of this NBC studio were not seen by many in the area, either because they were not yet born or their families do not own TV. Rather than lose all of this work, a LinkBack will give access to those want to read about what was tape therein. As a sidepoint, these shows were not about Midwood anyway.
