[edit]Minnie Redwood was born Minnie Shultz. She married 18th April 1882 to Frank W. Bemis (son of Henry V.Bemis, owner of the Richlieu Hotel in Chicago) in Champaign Co., Illinois. They had two children, Freda Bemis (b.July 1885) and Joseph Bemis (b.Jan 1887)Minnie filed for a divorce in June 1893 in New York, on the grounds of cruelty, her father-in-law (Henry V.Bemis)supporting her case. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/d/a/h/Steven-L-Dahlstrom/GENE34-0260.html
She was hired in 1892 under the name Minnie Renwood Bemis by the producer Charles Hoyt to replace Loie Fuller in the play 'Quack, M.D.' when Fuller left after arguing over a pay rise. Minnie was hired to imitate Fuller's serpentine dance, but the plublicity continued to use Fuller's image, causing Fuller to file a lawsuit in June 1892 for copyright on her dance.
