mainly centred in Southern England?[edit]

I recall Mod Revivalism being rather strong on Teesside at the time and there's even a Jam theme bar in Hartlepool. Would suggest alternative wording.

It was spread about the place, but the bulk of it seems to be in the Home Counties, and south of the Midlands. At least that's my take. The Northern Soul connection is interesting, and I think that The Jam were involved in that, but they were hardly a northern English band. --MacRusgail 21:36, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Mod Revivial spread to the USA as well. As early as 1978-79, there were youth who called themselves Mods in all major metropolitan areas. The bulk of the US movement lasted until about 1988, but there are still some diehards today. GregCovey 21:46, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Beatles??[edit]

Not sure why the Beatles are being added back as an influence on the 78/79 mod revival? The key elements were the Who and the Kinks (interest initially from covers by the Jam) and the Small Faces, who were one of the biggest mod groups of the 60s. The Beatles were never a mod group and had no influence on the revival. -unsigned

You are incorrect. The Beatles are a definite influence on The Jam and many other mod revival bands. The Jam Wikipedia article (and many links found by typing "The Jam" "The Beatles" into Google) even says so. A Beatles influence is very apparent in the music of mod revival bands, and some mod revival bands, including The Jam, have recorded covers of Beatles songs. It is irrelevant whether The Beatles were a mod group; many mods liked them, and their music had an influence on the music of the mod revival.Spylab 17:58, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I actually dont think I am incorrect to be honest. I was there in 78/79 and the mod revival certainly didnt look towards the Beatles.... Agree that you didnt have to be a mod group for mods to like them but in the 60s there was friction between mod bands and the Beatles, and their followers, similar to the rivalry between the Beatles and the Stones. In the modrevival some bands did do Beatles covers, the same as the Beatles covered r&b hits (but thats not shown as an influence on the Beatles wikipedia article)but covering a song and hopefully putting your imprint in it means you like the song. After the Jam, the key Modrevival bands were the Chords, Secret Affair and the Purple Hearts, with sounds a longway from the Beatles. If you key in modrevival and beatles into google, which this is about, its not conclusive that the Beatles were a influence, far from it. On the point of the Jam wikipedia article, it doesnt say that the Beatles were an influence. It states, as an opinion/point of view , that their originals revealed the influence of the Beatles (along with Motown and the Who) yet the first album is more the influence of the Who and Small Faces...and Dr.Feelgood and their ilk.... I'd suggest the Kinks influence came a bit later. We're probably not going to agree on this anyway! --The4skins2004 18:40, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Punks vs Teddy Boys at Margate[edit]

Might have have happened but the 77 skin vs ted fights were organised (if you can call it that)and happened in 77 as well in Southend...and Margate as well... and the flow through from the 60s relates to the revival skins and mod following it through —The preceding unsigned comment was added by The4skins2004 (talkcontribs) 16:13, August 21, 2007 (UTC).

1978[edit]

Did it really begin in 1978? I'd say 1977 --TangoTizerWolfstone (talk) 18:48, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Jam? Really?[edit]

There were quite a few bands around doing "Mod" music. The Jolt, The Cigarettes. So it wasn't just The Jam.

Paul Weller said that the Jam were not a mod band, only he was.

Punk was also heavily influenced by original Mod bands. The Sex Pistols used to do Small Faces covers, for example. It even crept into New Wave. Look at the look of Blondie. They were heavily influenced by the look of the 60's bands, and you can hear it in their music too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.171.9.56 (talk) 21:54, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
