Does anyone know why this page is called "modified" Richardson iteration? I only know it as just Richardson iteration.--Arvid42 21:08, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree, I don't know why this is called "modified". If one looks at the review paper "Iterative solution of linear systems in the 20th century", Y. Saad and H.A. van der Vorst, J. of Comp. and Appl. Mathematics, 123, 1 (2000) http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S037704270000412X, one sees in Sec. 4 that this is just called "Richardson iteration". (Other references also agree with this.) I propose the name of this entry be changed to just "Richardson iteration". Any discussion of this? Is there any reason not to? Is there a way to change the name of a Wikipedia entry without breaking links to it? Or should we leave the Wikipedia entry name the same and just change the name on the page?

I'm not an expert in the field, but I think the article has a factual error: the condition mentioned ${\displaystyle |1-\omega \lambda _{i}|<1}$ is actually NOT guaranteed by the condition on ${\displaystyle \omega }$. E.g. if any of the eigenvalues is negative, then the spectral radius is still well defined, but never will ${\displaystyle |1-\omega \lambda _{i}|<1}$ hold for all ${\displaystyle i}$, no matter how small ${\displaystyle \omega >0}$ you choose.
