Less dense than the average what?[edit]

The gravity is lower because the lower crust was thinned and replaced by sediments with upper crustal density. On the scale of the lithosphere that gives you a negative sum. --Tobias1984 (talk) 17:03, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Explainng it on the talk page to a geologist serves no purpose. If the information is included in the article it needs introduced to the non-expert in the audience. I have reworded and added another source:Ford, M., Brown, C., & Readman, P. (1991). Analysis and tectonic interpretation of gravity data over the Variscides of southwest Ireland. Journal of the Geological Society, 148(1), 137-148. The original claim was from the linked to article Gravity anomalies of Britain and Ireland. This was clearly a problem. I removed it for now. Please add back developed into an informative paragraph about the significance for a general audience. The article could stand organization, also, basin with lots of research.
